Default Muffler suggestion

Sup guys I have 2010 5.4 and I have it straight piped behind the cats all the way back. It's a 2.5 inch pipe to a 5 inch diesel rolled tip. I'm looking for a muffler that has almost no drone at all and a growl when I jump on it. My straight pipe sounds good but on a cold start it pops when I first start it up and when I drive it until it warms up then it sounds good again. Need the best comfortable muffler that has no drone since the wife nags about it.

No contest Borla all the way. Had the cat back on my 06 5.4L and loved it. Zero drone. Zero! But amazing sound very deep rumble. And when you get on it grey sound.

Now I have it on my 2011 6.2L and it is perfect. I just did the weld on muffler as I already have 3" pipes. Check out my thread i started and you can get the model number for that.

Borla all the way. Just the muffler was 100 bucks or so shipped from Amazon. Local muffler shop labor was nothing to have it installed.

His is 40359 part number from his thread off Amazon. It appears to be a case type muffler, and i would recommend Borla too. I have the 40842S which is smaller and round so mine would probably be louder if you have no resonator in and the wife may not like it. I have zero drone and I would say the one he recommended would be perfect for you, and pretty cheap. Mine cost about $165 vs $100

Yah for sure. Before I have had Gibson flow master dynomax and glass packs.

I left my resonator in and in town cruising or on the highway zero drone. But when you are on the throttle it sounds awesome. My 6.2 is very deep sound. The 5.4 I had to one sounded great too. It's a very well tuned sound. I won't put any other system on again.

I went with the Borla ProSX with some custom dual tailpipes, minus the stock resonator and love it. Originally had a slight drone cruising around 1800 RPM (like most mufflers with a V8) but added a homemade J-pipe tuned for that engine speed. That seemed to do the trick and the drone is gone.

That probably will be the case. Most vehicles need at least 2 muffling bodies to be completely drone free.

Thanks for the mention!

We would recommend looking at one of our 5x8x18" size mufflers, then going from there. The units with 2.5" inlet/outlets would be #12246 (satin) or 14246 (polished). If you have any questions about sizing, please let us know!
