Default Muffler Size???

2011 5.0 extended cab F150 4x4 XLT.

I want to replace the muffler only on my exhaust system. What size inlet/outlet do I need to be looking for? Also, Im thinking about deleting the factory resonator while the shop is installing the muffler. Thoughts?

Thanks!!!

I think it's 2-3/4". I just took mine to a local muffler shop & had them run 3" pipe from the Y-pipe all the back to the Tailpipe (which is 3"). I installed a Borla XR1 muffler...all total it was $250.

I kept my resonator. Pulled the muffler off from the clamp right after resonator. 2.75"

I kept it cheap. 18" straight pipe, 90° angled pc. One hanger.
Welded 2 pcs together, slid it into place, Dumped right before the axle.

$20 and sounds great.

dynatech splitflow 3" SI/SO. Sounds identical to a corsa IMO but a fraction of the cost.

are you removing the resonator also? i did i went with a 3 inch from the y pipe into a 3 inch dynomax racebullet and into my stock 3 inch tailpipe. it really sounds good. low growl but no drone. the stock tailpipe should be 3 inch, and the midpipe if you will should be 2.5 or 2.75, i know its not 3 because its smaller than the 3 inch pipe i had put in.

Thanks for the info guys! I have single chamber Cherry Bomb Extremes with an offroad xpipe on my Mustang GT and love that chambered sound. I may go with a single inlet/outlet and remove the resonator too. I think that would sound great!
