Default Much Better than Previous Vehicles

My 5.4L 4x4Supercrew with 3:55LS 20 inch Pirrellis and a cap averaging 18-19mpg now. I was getting 21-23 mostly highway. I peaked at 27mpg on a trip to the cottage with a light load and taking my time. But I am driving it alot harder now. .

The 3L Pathfinder and 4.7L Dodge Dakota 4x4s were alot worse. The Ford is really good considering it is so much bigger and heavier and can tow alot more. The thing really likes to drink when in the city or heavy acceleration.

Mostly city, last manual calculation was 17.5 miles per imperial gallon. Not driven too easy - have to move it so I don't rear ended. Dash readout said 22 mpg for the same period..lol

If it makes 20mph city I'll be very happy. Highway is actually pretty good - not measured but just cost of fuel to go a known distance - way better than my other truck.

Edit: 17.5 imperial mpg converts to 14.6 US, so yeah, I'm doing real good...lol
My 2010FX4 SuperCrew is getting about 17 Imperial MPG as well (less than 15MPG US). 41,000km since Dec 09 with no change. That's the way it's going to be

I get average of about 16-17 MPG (US). I have to try and get that otherwise if I drive at all normal it goes down to 14mpg. I like to drive slow anyways. HWY no cruise 70-80 I can get 18mpg on the flats, if I go 60-65 I get around 19-20MPG. If I go 80-85 well......... not so good. It really depends on how you drive, how can a vacuum meter tell you its not your driving? All of my numbers come from flat areas no heavy winds, add any of these and I have seen drops as much as 2mpgs.

13L/100km (20 US gallons/mile) according to the dash with a '10 FX4 (5.4L w/w 3.73). Over 1000 kms per tank. 136L tank though!! Fill up once a week for ~$117 CDN @ 106¢/litre.

I get about 14-15 in the City with a lot of hills. I drove to Springfield, IL from KC and i got 18 on the Lie o Meter and 17 on the way back. I think it was calculated 1mpg below that. How are people getting 20s on their 4.6. I have a 4.6L SCab with 3.73.

Yeah, I'm OK with that; I didn't buy the truck to save gas and my car might as well have a half inch hole in the tank for the amount of 94 it uses..lol

SLOW DOWN!! That's what I did. Started with my wife's car. Went on genvibe.com and a guy posted fuel economy versus speed. There is nothing linear about it and economy drops off dramatically the faster you go. I would normally get 500-550kms on a tank in her car and then I slowed down and got 400kms on the top half alone. I'm talking driving 90km/h instead of 100km/h and the time difference is negligible. With my truck I accelerate slowly and stay around 90km/h and that's how I get 13L/100km. Sorry for the metric!!

13.6 per the dash & 5.4l w/3.73 rear. Stop and go driving for the most part. Hopefully it'll get a little better.

well this summer i tried something different i slowed down to 80kmh<50miles per hour> and i had a back wind pushing me and it was a hot day with little traffic so i set it on cruise and reset my dash and did about 20miles...wow !29miles to the gallon<imperial> with a lot of cars behind me but i normally dont drive that way i usually drive at a 100kmh or 62mph and i get 12/100km which comes out at 24mpg canadian or imperial or 21 mpg american but in town well it sucks.
