Default mounting bed extender

Just bought a 2008 bed extender with all the hardware. Have a question regarding proper drill bit size. Any info is greatly appreciated.

I don't know what blue locktite is. I just screwed in using the self-tapping screws. No sweat.

If you have the proper hardware you shouldn't have to do any drilling or using self-tapping screws. There is a threaded hole already there for mounting an earlier model OEM bed extender. Here is the Blue Loctite that was talked about.

It will keep the bolt from coming loose. The new style one's are loctited from the factory.
But I don't think it would be a problem without it.

For some reason, not all 09+ trucks may come with the pre-installed nut for the bed extender.

There was someone on another forum that was trying to get his 06 extender onto his '10 and after much ado, we realized that his truck didn't have the nut pre-installed.

He discovered after removing the tail lights and peeking around that there was an indentation on the wall where the "hole" should be and there was sufficient metal materials behind it to drill and tap.

Just be aware that not all F150's are alike in this regards...

I put one in my truck and the bolts that attach to the bed are self tapping. the holes are not threaded from the factory. But just screw them in and all is well. And remember that there is also the plastic grommets that the lock clicks into as well...

Thanks for your input. Should have checked my wife's truck before posting. It does indeed have all the holes there and my cage included all the hardware.

Just a simple question, but I just got the bolts and bushings from the dealer and have no clue how they go or how to even go about putting the extender on. Would you have a step by step?
