More Itouch/hard drive issues
Let me preface... I love the Ford Sync system for my Itouch... when it works. First it would take forever to index (7000 songs, 30 gigs) and when it did it would have missed some. I then used the syncmyitunes software. I just went for a 2 hour trip and it did not finish indexing the entire time. I couldn't even listen to my music at all... kinda pisses me off. Any ideas??
The other option I have is a 60 gig external hard drive I have laying around. I formatted it to FAT32, put my music on in folders (ARTIST-ALBUM-SONG) and sync did not recognize any USB device plugged in. I searched the forum but could not find a solution. Any ideas? Is there a specific file structure I have to use?
Thanks in advance.
Mike

dont know what to tell ya, I have an 8 gig Itouch hooked up and it took about 5 mins to index and it didnt miss any of the songs.
I wonder if it has to have non DRM songs for it to work with sync!

Yeah but that's not the point. The Itouch can handle it fine, why can't Sync? I have a lot of music that I don't listen to all the time but when I want to hear it, I want to hear it.
16 or 32 GB USB with MP3s, M4As, or other non-protected compressed music files connected to USB2 (in either the glove compartment or center console).
Store them all on the root directory (along with any m3u playlists). Create the playlists on the USB - do no try to copy them to the USB.
Make sure ALL metadata (ID3 tags) is complete.
Best I can offer. Mine works flawlessly.

I've got the 2nd gen 8g Itouch loaded up with about 1300 songs and it works fine all the time. I have no indexing issues. I uploaded the V3...from Itunes and it unlocked the bluetooth. Now it starts streaming automatically when I start the rig but to use the steering wheel controls I have to switch to USB.

I bought a 250 gig hard drive and routed a cable from the back of my stereo (USB 2) into my glovebox. With over 40,000 songs it took less than a minute to index all of my music. The drive was formatted on my Mac laptop and works fine even though SINC is a Microsoft based system.
Not to nit but it is an iPod Touch, not an iTouch. This issues is well documented in the sync my ride forums. It has to do with the iPod 3.1 firmware. I don't think Apple or MS are in any hurry to fix it.
Thanks for all the replies. I have decided to, due to the iTouch software issue, to not go that route. I am going to use my external HD, and if it works properly I will get a larger one and install it using the secondary port. I ran a quick test using 10 songs on a thumb drive, having the song as the root directory is what I wasn't doing right before. Thanks again!
