If you look from the front it looks like there's some damage to the lower bumper on that side. Previous owner probably hit something and I'm guessing that's what pushed that side out of whack.

Just a little update. Bought some 1/2" washers and put about 4-5 between the frame and the bumper on the left side and screwed it back on. Both sides are about even now. Wish they would just come symmetrical from the factory though!

Looking at the bumper closely it looks like one side is sticking out a bit farther than the other side. Is there anyway to fix this? I'm scared because I don't think the tires I am getting would fit with the one side being so close.

3 inches away

4 inches driver

If you look closely you can see the left and right sides aren't lined up
Check the rear bumper also. You may find a misalignment there like I did.

My bumper is the exact same way. Bought my truck used. I figured I may have been hit from the previous owner. I was also awning on fixing it the same way you did. Just waiting for it to stop raining. My rear bumper is a little tighter on the pass side to the body than the drivers side too. Notice it when I wash in the Crack. May have to do the same as well.

It's not perfect but it's a lot more even now. I used 1/2" washers. Might throw in a lock washer when I adjust it again. Took about 5 minutes to do too

Did mine yesterday. It's almost perfect now. Took 3 washers on each bolt on the pass side for a total of 6. Also aligned my pass side rear bumper perfect with 3 washers on the outer bolt where it bolts to the hitch. Didn't need any on any other one.
