Default Mirrors stopped dimming

My rear and drivers side auto-dimming mirrors quit dimming. Any ideas what might be the problem?

Can't be tint because I have factory privacy glass and it's real dark.

No changes with line of site (no tint or cap) and the fuse is good. Spending time searching here seems the dimming mirrors are pretty trouble free don't find any threads from others having issues.

I do keep the 60% portion of the rear sear up but that's not anything new and doesn't seem the middle head rest position is much different up or down but I put it down and will see if that makes any difference.

Anything hanging from the rear view mirror? There is a forward looking sensor on the backside that is part of what activates the dimming mirrors and it affects both rear and side view. Something hanging could be blocking it.

Was out last night and mine quit working. I never cared for it, but without a switch to dim it I really hate it now. The only change to the truck is a new engine about a month ago, but the mirror worked after that change.

Have you had your dealer take a look at this, scorpio333? I suggest having them do so, as they'll be able to diagnose. Additionally, please fill me in with your model year and current mileage.

It took me this long to get to the dealer about this. Warranty ran out, so in this case I'd rather diagnose/fix it myself. Can't find any reliable info on how this mirror works. No fuses are associated with the mirror.

Ford lists a few versions:
With Manual Rear View Mirror - $46

With Electrochromic R/View Mirror, AM/FM Stereo/CD/DVD/Nav System - $205

With Electrochromic R/View Mirror, All Radios Less Navigation - $262

And then there's a mystery part - Electrochromic Mirror - Video Cap - $1183

The associated illustration shows 17700a and 17700b. a looks like the manual mirror, but the last three in the list above are all b or ???

My truck is a 12 FX4 w/ nav. My bet is the compass is located in the mirror, however I believe the compass still functions while the mirror is unplugged. I got to check that. $200 is expensive to me for a mirror, $1200 is complete !@#$%

Mystery part might be the review mirror that is used with a backup camera when a truck is not equipped with a navigation system. The backup camera view will appear on a portion of the review mirror.
