Default Max trailer tow package

I tried searching but the seach mechanism won't allow me to use 3 letter words, so phrase like "max trailer tow" end up searching for "towing" and it finds way too much to fish through. Wont even search for "7 lug".

So here is my question....

I'm going to be trading in my super duty for a new F150 this spring....I am wondering about the max trailer tow package. I see when you select the 3.73 limited slip rear end you get the package. This will be a 4x4 truck. One thing that I don't quite understand is the 7 lug rear axle.

Is the rear axle 7 lug and the fromt 6 lug?? How do you rotate tires in that case (if thats the way it is). Doesn't look like you could.

Also are all the wheel options available with the max trailer tow pkg?? I want to get the 20's.

Speaking of the 20's...Anyone have pictures of the 20's that come with the chrome package (the 20" chrome clad aluminum wheels)???

Thanks for any info.

Glen

I can't help you on the Tow Package but can help you on the search. When searching with 3 letter words add a "*" after the word, this is a wildcard. So your search will look like this:

max* trailer tow* package

My 09 Lariat, 4x4, has the max tow package and I just rotated the tires with no issues. As far as the wheel options, I would go to http://www.fordvehicles.com/trucks/f150/ and build one.

Shotgun,

I did do that and it appears the 20's are available as far as the build and price application is concerned. This had me wondering if there were both a 6 lug and a 7 lug version of each wheel. I can't imagine that there is. The build and price application makes no mention of the max trailer tow package unless you select the 3.73 LS axle at the beginning and the 7 lug feature is mentioned only in the info section of the max tow package of the package tab and says 7 lug rear axle. Thus leading me to my question for you guys who actually have these trucks at this time.

My assumption always was the front and back had the same number of lugs, it would make zero sense to do it any other way. I was just wondering if by choosing the max trailer tow package would limit my wheel options. Maybe that is how I should have phrased the question...

Thanks for that tip DW....I will try that.

One of my co-works has the chrome clad on his 08 XLT. And they are horrible, he says if you dont keep them clean and keep them that way the brake dust and other things will stick and stain the wheels. I really like the look of the chrome clad wheels for the 09+, its different but interesting. I hope they have fixed the problem on these new chrome clads.

I wanted the 8 foot bed with an extended cab. This comes only in the xl or the xlt trim and has the tow and payload package and comes with the 7 lug steel wheel which is the only wheel option. I believe that the trucks with the 5 or 6 foot bed can have the tow package and any wheel option. Although Ford offers 7 trim levels and multiple options, if you order an 8 foot bed you are excluded from any wheel option and cannot get leather interior. The Chevy offers both.

Loo,

So you have the 3.73 LS rear end and the tow mirrors and the integrated brake controller among the other listed upgrades that come with the max trl tow pkg?? Your window sticker lists the max trailer tow option. Not doubting, just verifying. Because if it is so, I'll be a happy camper.

I'll be able to outfit like I want to.....

Thanks.

You only get the 7 lug if you opt for the heavy payload package 8200#. They are steel wheels only (chrome clad is optional over the same steel whl) You cant get 20's with the 7 lug.
I have the max tow XLT/XTR s/c 4x4. Wouldn't get another with out the max pack.
