Well with some sellers remorse, I sold my 05 lariat screw last night. I got tired of laying awake at night thinking of a cam phaser failure while towing in the boonies with the family this summer. Ideally I'd like to get an 11+ lariat 6.5ft box screw but have seen some deals on the 2010 lariats with 5.4. Can anyone say with any certainty if the 09-10 triton was or will have the same cam phaser issue as the 04-08?im pretty sure they fixed the stuck spark plug issue but the cam phaser noise and potential failure still makes me weary of "settling" for a 5.4L again due to better pricing.

I can say I know that the spark plug issue was fixed. I have a 2010 with a 5.4 and the plugs were not changed until 165,000 miles. Yes thats right. I got a really good deal and bought it with higher miles in perfect condition but I guess the other owner never had the plugs changed. They came out and changed perfectly.

What about your cam phasers, any indication of if they had been changed prior to you owning it or does it make the soft diesel sound St idle?

I would go new, Simply because most used trucks on the market out there are priced at the same point or very close to a new truck. Go visit the lot and take 10k off the stick and thats what you can own the truck for.

A new lariat is waaaay out of my price range. I could get a XLT supercrew with ecoboost brand new for 32k but it's still more than I'd like to spend. I'm looking to be in the 25k range for a used lariat. Don't need one for a few more months when the weather warms up enough to go camping anyhow, I'm hoping to snag a good deal on one at auction but supply of slightly used trucks is very slim this time of year, even at auto auction.

I have a 2012 6.2 XLT f150 and it makes that sort of ticking sound at idle in park or drive it sounds like a diesel from inside and out side the cab
But my friends 2011 3,5 mustang Straight pipe k&n intake and a programmer, and he makes the same sound and the same with my friends 5.0 mustang

Sorry that this is off topic, but I thought the 6.2 wasn't available in xlt's till 2013.

I hope you didn't pay for the 6.2 option. Your 2012 XLT is a 5.0.
