Default looking to add power

I have a 2010 5.4. I've had it since new, and have about 104,000 miles on it. I love the truck, and still like the interior better than any of the new options.

Long story short. I'm not a fan of the lack of power compared to newer vehicles, or the delay in transmission when i floor it to pass.

I want to truck to last me another 100k if possible. So, what can I do to add power without compromising the integrity of the truck? I know I could add a supercharger, but don't want to end up blowing up my engine.

Additionally, if anyone has any recommendations for a shop in the DFW area, please let me know.

I appreciate the input.

Yeah. I guess I should have said that I know a tuner is going to be part of the plan, but there's more to it than that. That's the part I really need help with.

What else do I need that will really allow the tuner to make a difference? CAI, exhaust, throttle body? Looking for best bang for the buck, but again the most important thing is that I want the truck to make it to 100k miles. For example. I know I could always add nitrous to get power, but it wouldn't take long to explode an engine.

I'm fairly comfortable adding most bolt on type items to the truck, but if it's something where I really need to tear into the engine, I would want a shop to do it.

Ah, well then, the first thing you should get with that tuner is some good tunes.

That's pretty much it. You could clean the throttle body.

There's nothing wrong with Ford's cai. You could get a little hp with a bigger exhaust, perhaps. Nothing like changing shift timing with a tune, though. People do mods, talk about "huge" differences and you find out later they got 10hp. WooHoo!!

Yeah I have to agree with spiky here very little to be done in the way of adding hp to our trucks I also have a 2010 5.4. I havent ventured into the realm of tunes yet and not sure that I will. I use my truck to pull my boat and Daily driving not looking to set any land speed records or burnout contests. The 5.4 is a solid towing unit not unbelievably powerful or crazy impressive but gets the job done and reliably. I would recommend double checking your maintenance to add a lil pep back. Check and or change your spark plugs if your not up to date I always can tell a lil difference when I change mine. if your flex fuel you could run some e85 according to ford it make 10hp and 25-30 more lb ft tq. I use it some when the price is right and notice a lil more spunk. You will definitly notice a mpg loss with e85 so make sure the pricing vs regular makes sense I get 2-3 mpg less with it. cat back exhaust just changes sound with very lil if any noticeable hp difference. What gear ratio do you have you may regear and see a noticeable difference in take off if your like me I have 3.31's its the right gear for my needs but to "Sluggish" for some a 3.73 may get you that jump you want but it will come with a price tag and may not be worth it for what your looking to achieve. At any rate i got 172000 miles on mine and with proper care and maintenance there should be no reason you cant get another 100k out of that truck, I know I'm hoping to get to 300k myself. Good luck with whatever you chose to do and keep us posted I always like to hear about mods and improvements to our trucks Take care dude

Thanks for the replies.

I have 3.53 gears. If I was to regear it would go to 4.10 and I would add lockers. Not sure I want to go that route though. I use my truck the same as you. I have a 25' Travel Trailer, and you're right that the truck is sufficient. Honestly, I'm just tired of not being able to pass easily. I don't want to hall ***, but when I need to pass I want to make sure I don't get rear ended because it takes too long to get up to speed. I changed the plugs at 80k and cleaned the throttle body about 10k ago. Neither really needed it, but I like to stay ahead on maintenance. I haven't done a fuel injector cleaner in a while, so maybe I'll try that.

I know 5 star has some good tunes, but I didn't think they made much difference without additional mods.

I've been really happy with the truck in every aspect except for "get up and go". (note that it doesn't help that our other cars are an explorer sport with eco boost and a corvette) I don't need to be as fast as either of those, but it certainly highlights just how slow I am when merging onto the highway.

Well. It appears from what I've found that A tuner is really all I need. There's nothing to really add on. So my next question is, which tuner, and tunes? I've heard SCT is the way to go. I've read good things about 5star, but is this the best combination?

I use SCT with 5* and MPT. MPT being more aggressive. Been running their (MPT) 93 race tune for a few years now.
