Default Long term towing

I presently have a 2015 5.0 that I'm not fond of, but it's a lease so it goes back late next year. I miss my 2013 Ecoboost and would like to buy a CPO of that body style again. I tow a 7000 lb enclosed car trailer two to three times a month, usually short trips but occasionally several hundred miles. My next truck needs to last me 10-15 years. Anyone got 100K plus on these chassis? I have 100% confidence in the Eco and the 6R80, but I'm less familiar with the rear, suspension and chassis.

I don't mean to change the subject of your question. But since I have a 14' 5.0 what part are you unhappy about? The body of the 15 or the 5.0 engine? My good friend has a 15 with the Eco so I've had time driving his. I have to say the new body has grown on me. I'm starting to like it and the Eco is quite a beast. Now on the other hand I do love my trk and the 5.0. It really is a good puller. I work in LA but live in Michigan so I can't speak to the longevity of the truck yet but I do pull fairly heavy trailers with my truck across country and it does great. The only thing I have done is add rear air bags with wireless compressor so that I can fine tune ride and handling. My whole take on the Eco vs 5.0 really is just corn gas (e85) if ford ever gets around to making the Eco e85 compatible I would get it over the 5.0 I like the throttle response of the Eco better. But as I like to run corn gas about 90% of the time I'm stuck with the 5 for awhile.

My truck has the 3.31 gears (my fault, should've known better) and really struggles to maintain speed on the highway. The same situations would have the Eco in 6th or 5th at worst cruising at 2000-2500 RPM

Yeah the 5.0 with 3.31 isn't a good combo for towing. I think if you had the 3.73 you like it better with the 5.0. I had a 5.4 with different gear ratios and the 3.73 made a huge difference- would be the same with the 5.0 no doubt. Since the "new" f150 isn't very new except for sheet metal and tech, the rest assured that the major components have been well tested and reliable.

Ahh. I see. Yeah mine has the HD towing option. It pulls great. Pretty much stays at whatever speed I ask of it. Hills or not. Although I don't push it too hard it's a runner.

I've got 120k miles on my 2012 screw Eco 4x4. I've pulled some heavy trailers like yours, maybe up to 9k# 1 time. I've hauled enough payload in my 6.5' bed to set the bump stops about 1" above the rear axle and hauled that a way a few times. But most of my mileage is 70mph highway driving. I've got 3.73 gears.

No problems with the driveline at all other than an odd vibration above 70mph that's been there since day 1 and seems to be common on the 6.5' bed, screw combo trucks.
