Default Long Distance F150

Well I've decided to take the family to DW in July and we are driving this time I've made the drive two times before and I said I would never do it again and, well, here I am a glutton for punishment I guess. We are driving around 1000 miles each way straight through from PA all the way down I-95. My mileage has been all over the place lately from 13.8 all city stop and go down to a dismal 11.0 MPG! Last night coming home from dinner I saw as much as 15. I have the 5.0 Screw FX-4 with 3.73 gears. Anyone aho has done any long distnace driving what are your real world highway MPG's. I was thinking maybe 20 if I'm lucky. Thoughts?

I am in the middle of a 3 day weekend trip that involves driving from Seattle to Central Oregon. There are two of us with lots of luggage and I have the FX4 with 3.73 gears. The only place I averaged 20 mpg was on the freeway in a fairly flat stretch. The overall trip average is now at 17.5 mpg. That includes going over a 3000' plus mountain pass. There has been some city driving and one remote start mixed in.

I think I am still burning winter gas so I usually expect +10% mileage once the summer blends hit.

If you stay off the cruise control (yup I said OFF) and go the speed limit (65-70 MPH) than you will probably get between 18-20 MPG depending on the grade and wind direction. If you go 5-10 over, than you will likely get 17-18 MPG. At least, that has been my experience with a 5.0 with 3.73 gearing.

For some reason, cruise control actually lowers my MPG which is contrary to any other vehicle I've owned. But this is my first truck so maybe that has something to do with it.

I have the 3.73's too and I agree, I get better mileage when I dont use cruise (but on a long trip, I will use it).

I managed 17.1 (hand calc, 18.0 said the truck) on a recent 575 mile trip that included 200 miles at 72, 260 miles at 77 and 140 miles on secondary roads at speeds between 25 and 60 and with 100 miles in 4wd.

oddly enough, the first half the truck read 17.2 and by the time I stopped to fill up, it was up to 18.0. not sure if there were more up hills on the way or what, it was maybe 5 degrees warmer on the way back though.

I've seen the same thing with cruise control. I was on a county road today and I could keep the truck steady at 60 MPH using the instant MPG readout as a guide. I switched to cruise control and the instant MPG readout was lower than what I was just achieving.

Ecoboost with 3.31 gears and I get honestly 22 mpg/hwy on long trips. But I drive super cautious and about 60mph.

Thanks for the replies guys. This is what I expected. With air fare around $300.00 a ticket roundtrip we could use the extra savings for fun and entertainment. Besides this thing drives like a car on the freeway. I'm going to install headrest monitors to keep the youngins occupied.

Just made the trip to DW in the EB. Left Texas headed east, so its pretty flat. Over the entire round trip (2250 miles) I averaged 18.1 mpg. Thats averaging 80 mph most of the trip.
