Default Loading an ATV

Question... I have a 5.0 Scab and want to load my 700 Grizzly into the truck bed. I know it would be a tight squeeze if it even fits, however I know it will fit if I leave the tailgate down. This leads me to my biggest question. If I load the ATV into the truck with the ramps, don't I want to do so with the tailgate off? The cables on tailgates have a tendency to snap when under heavy load and my atv with me on it will be almost 800lbs. If I do take the tailgate off for loading, I'm not sure I can do it since the atv might not completely fit in the bed. Does anyone have my setup with pictures or advice? Or just advice in general. I would rather not screw something up. The cables are pretty cheap but an over extended tailgate smashed into my bumper is not.

Thanks!

Hook ratchet straps to the middle of the ramps, and ratchet them to the hitch hooks on the truck. Works like a charm for me.

The gate won't snap. It's not just the cables holding it. I had no problem with an 800 Rincon.

I've had my Can am outlander max in my 6 1/2' bed...and no issues. Since I still have my G2 tonneau cover on my back wheels sit in the middle of the tailgate and I have drove a 300km trip like that. From now on I think I will remove the tonneau cover for long trips and get the back wheel of the quad in the crack between tailgate and bed... And no issues with weight on the tailgate when loading and with me on the bike I'd say it's close to 1200lbs

This prevents the ramps from sliding around i assume?

That ATV is about 86 inches if i'm not mistaken.... The grizzly is about 81 inches, so i have no chance of fitting it in the bed with the tail gate closed unless it sits high enough where from wheel to wheel it would fit in and over hang the top of the bed. It actually frustrates me that tey dont make the Grizzly a little shorter, but of course that would likely sacrafice the comfort. Uh, why did i even get a 6.5 bed!

My Kodiak 450 with 26" Zilla tires fits with the tailgate closed and MAYBE an inch to spare. Depending on tires, your Grizz is at least 2" longer than my bike, so it'll be tailgate down for sure.

I don't pull the tailgate off or anything to load. Got some 9' folding aluminum ramps with safety straps that I got off ebay (these) and loading is a snap.

Ive got a Polaris 850 with aftermarket wheels and bigger tires. Im probably around 900lbs. No issues with tailgate down on my last 2 F150s, or this new one.

I'm glad you posted this thread as I am about to haul my Foreman 500 in the truck bed for the first time next weekend. I figure the bike is 500lbs, and I'm 290+ so thats a lot of *** on the tailgate. Glad to know it should hold!
