Lights on Lights off?

My question relates to this so...
Today for example the weather was foggy and cloudy... common sense says turn on your headlights but the auto headlight sensor does not agree so I that's the reason why I always use them on manual (as it was intended dammit) but if the auto sensor doesn't think the lights should be on but I turn them on anyways my dash lights do not light up until it gets dark enough for the sensor to think they should be on.
Did that make any sense? So far it's the only thing I found to complain about this truck. Not bad

Mine seems to know when i need the interior lit...it seems like every time i think "Hmmm...my interior should be on." They come on.
Just make sure you don't put anything on the sensor...like a hat or some mail or something.

My 2010 does the same. The dash lights bother me the most when it's rainy or late day and the guages don't light up until auto sensor thinks its dark enough.

Thats exactly what I noticed today with my 2012 KR. Dense fog, lights on and the Sat Nav was in auto mode so the background was white. Passing through a densely wooded area the Sat Nav went to night mode automatically.
It's working as designed.
It makes sense

One of my few niggles with my 2010 as well. Sometimes it's too dark to see the guages clearly - especially when I cross the border into MPH teritory instead of KPH. I can't make out the MPH numbers on the dial unless the guage is lit up. If I turn the lights on, it still doesn't illuminate the guages.... grrr.
The guages on my 2011 are a lot better for viewing - both lit and unlit.

Ok I'm a bit relieved that it seems to be the norm. Doesn't mean I have to like it though
Is there a way to disable the auto dimming sensor completely? The only automatic thing I want is the transmission, the driver should have control of everything else.
So far I've disabled the belt minder for both driver and passenger seats as well as the auto locking feature.
If I can get rid of the auto dimming thing I'll be a happy camper

They def screwed with the auto feature after 2010. When it is raining or cloudy(depending on the light situation) it will turn on the heads, but leave off the gauge cluster.
