Default Leveling kit question!!!

To start off.....................YES, I did search the subject first but couldn't find what I wanted to know.

I have a 2" Hell Bent leveling kit in my center console to install. I have a shop who is willing to install it for me plus do alignment for a grand total of $250.00. On the other hand though, I have a lift available in the shop at my Grandmothers farm and I am willing to attempt to install the kit myself with the help of my cousin. I'm not a mechanic by any means but is installing a leveling kit difficult?

Well, with what I know of suspension systems and looking at the suspension and knowing what goes into it you should be able to do it just fine. I am a very novice mechanic at best and I replaced all the timing elements in my 04 5.4 and the exhaust manifold..(which by chance meant removing the whole head)....I believe you can do it. It may take more time than you are prepared for, I would make sure you have access to another vehicle just invade you did not plan enough time to complete. I would say without knowing what you are doing I would plan for 5-6 hours just to give yourself plenty of time. Ultimately with someone knowing what they are doing and everything cooperating (we all know how much vehicles cooperate) it should only take about 1-2 hrs.

I will probably try to recruit my uncle into helping me out. He's been messing with cars and trucks his who life.

Obviously after the leveling kit gets installed I will need an alignment. It won't hurt anything if i don't get it done the same day we install the kit will it?

It won't hurt anything. Just don't put too many miles on the tires or they will start wearing funny. The toe will be off so the truck won't handle as good as normal.

Don't forget to disconnect the battery to kill power to the EPAS.
It helps to have an impact gun or a piece of pipe to put on your ratchet for more leverage for the 30mm nut on the lower strut bolt. That sucker is on there.

$250 I believe is what Ford charges. I think it's $500 with parts and labor, and they use ReadyLift which is about $250 itself. And honestly, if I had to do it again I would've let
them do it. It took me about 7 hours with no help and had to finish the next morning cuz I had had enough.

X1 Only took my friend and I 2 hours without a lift. First side takes a lot longer than the 2nd side. And be sure to use a torque wrench not your calibrated wrist....
