Default left front speaker wire

This is sort of a request for help as well as a rant.....

My left front speaker has been crackling for a year and sometimes goes in and out. Took it to a local dealer to look at it as well as the seals on my door handles. The silicone is falling out.

Got a call a day later saying it was done. They couldn't replicate the problem. I figured they at least looked at it. I popped the door panel off last week and it was evident they never even opened it up. Because all they did was pull the loose pieces out and never resealed the door handles. Really makes me angry.

Anyway, at this point I think I would rather try to pinpoint the speaker problem myself.

Can anyone tell me what color and location of the front left (driver side) speaker under the dash. Figure I'll trace it and possibly replace it and diagnose it that way.

Thanks.

This happens to mine too, exactly as you described-and only in the driver's door speaker. I think there's been a couple of threads on it, usually with the dealer not being able to replicate it, moisture in the rubber tubing/conduit, etc. I'm taking my door panels off tomorrow to put on some trailer towing mirrors and will look/dig around. I have Kenwood speakers I put in shortly after we got the truck in January 2011, I'm QUITE sure that isn't the cause...

I can't answer your question about the wiring, I have the same problem, different door. Mine is on the passenger side.

Based on information I showed my dealer from this forum, they now believe it is the wiring harness. Here is a link to my post about it on another thread:

I have aftermarket speakers that I bought from Crutchfield and another member here suggested that it may be the Metra adapter that Crutchfield provides, but the dealer is replacing the harness anyway. They are treating it as a warranty thing and doing it for free.

Just got done taking off/putting back on the front door panels so I could put trailer mirrors on. I checked both front door speakers/leads during the process. I noticed a little bit of moisture in the connector of the drivers door, NONE in the passenger door. The actual metal contacts on the drivers door speaker connector were discolored, I wouldn't say corroded, just discolored as if from slight exposure to moisture. I could NOT see anything else damp in there or could not tell where the moisture was coming from. I did tape it up a little bit, but have second thoughts on having done that now-if it gets damp again, it might make it harder for the dampness to dissipate from the connector.

I had the same problem in my drivers side back door, I took it back a couple days after I bought it and they put in a new speaker and it's been fine since.

I went to the local dealer today and they said unless I can make it do it in front of them, they won't do anything.
