Ok, now I know some people are gonna hate on this because they would rather have HIDs, but hear me out and see if this will work. I've been doing my research and trying to figure out which route to take for headlights. As of right now HIDs are out, they are just way too expensive and I can think of other upgrades to the truck that I would rather spend $1300 on. So, I started looking into LEDs. I've been hearing some mixed reviews. I've heard they are excellent and I've heard they don't go well with stock halogen housings, which is what I have, and the light pattern sucks. I have also been looking at the PnP halogen projector lights. They aren't as good as the HID projectors but they may be a step above stock. What I have been thinking is, has anyone thought about modifying these halogen project lights to accept LED bulbs? The way I see it is, if the LEDs don't work well with stock housings, would they work better if their light was concentrated like with projector lights. What do you guys think? Will it work? Or would I just be better off staying stock and upgrading the bulbs?

 

They make LED bulbs that fit in place with no modifying. Just plug and play

I run oracles LED headlights and they are fantastic, very clear lighting and the color is different from everyone else's HIDs

 

PnP LED lights do not put out enough light.
In open halogen housings, they scatter light like HID (not as bad though). In projector housings, the have good foreground lighting, but poor distance lighting, even in low beam.

Get some better halogen bulbs is the cheapest and best option.
HID retrofit is the only other viable option.
Just curious, what other upgrades are more important than being able to see better at night?

Theyre gonna blind oncoming traffic, no matter what! Halogen housings scatter light, when a bulb other than a reccomended wattage halogen bulb is used.

 

I'm using the LifeTime ones from here, http://www.southeastoverland.com/ind...=114&Itemid=33, in both my Ranger and 150. I usually work from dark to dark, and meet Mr. LEO daily on my 35 mile trip each way through the boonies. If my lights are offensive, I wish LEO would stop me and let me know. So far, in the 4/5 months I've been using them, zero problems with blinding oncoming traffic.

 

Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if putting LED bulbs in a projector housing would even work. I wasn't sure if anybody had tried it or not. I couldn't find anything like this online. Also, it's not that they're more important I just feel that they could be put on the back burner for now. I'm still wanting to get a suspension kit that costs about the same. It's one or the other for me right now.

Are those lifetime LEDs really that good? I'm surprised to see that they don't seem to scatter as much as other photos I've seen and they aren't splotchy.

 

I'm happy with mine. I seem to be able to pick up Bambi and other critters a lot easier. Biggest thing was getting used to the 5K light color, opposed to the "yellow" of the Ultras I was using. Seems to have a lot more light on high shining onto the sides of the road, and ditches. I really think I've avoided some car/critter murders because of them.
I was thinking aux light bars and similar for the trucks, but these work fine, don't detract from the lines of the truck.

No, I don't. I think SouthEast recommends them for offroad, so I just got the regular ones.
