Default Key programming mess !

Hello everyone,
so I have a 2009 F-150 Platinum and the truck came with 1 key, using Forscan I added a second key no problem. Then I got the idea to add a 3rd as a hide a key.
it failed to learn any of the keys now every attempt to add the keys back including with IDS fails. The complaint is there are DTCs (which is the fact the IC has less than 2 keys learned). I can get into the pats system fine but every attempt to add keys fails.

any ideas? Maybe I need to reinitialize/calibrate the IC?

thx!

I'm not familiar with ForScan, but after you have 2 different keys working, you can program 3rd, 4th, (up to 8 I believe) without using Forscan. Just use the previous 2 programmed keys.

Wait - did you remove/delete all keys, so currently you have zero working keys?

What fault codes does FORScan show, and for what modules?

Ya thats correct when adding the 3rd key it erased the previous keys and failed to add any keys. So now there are 0 keys learned. Every attempt to relearn the keys or new keys fails to learn them. When I use IDS it says DTCs present.
The DTC is in the Instrument Cluster is less than 2 keys learned, the PCM also has one which is Theft Detected : Immobilized :: I don't have the specific DTCs I need to get them from that laptop but thats the loop I am stuck in.

Oh crap. That's not good.

See if there is an option to reset / reboot any of the modules related to the errors. I was having trouble adding a 2nd key (truck only came with 1), but I had key programming faults on the Body Control Module. Clearing the faults didn't help. As a last resort I tried the "reboot BdyCM" and after that, the 2nd and 3rd keys programmed no problem. I have a 2013 though, which may be different vs your 2009.

Are your keys Ford, or OEM Strattec? It shouldn't matter, but sometime aftermarket keys have issues programming.

Ya mine still has the GEM so all the PATs is IC and PCM. I cleared the DTCs and rebooted but those persist. I have one OEM key and the others are Amazon ones but one of them programmed fine but I know that also could be part of my issue.

Try deleting all keys and programming the keys again, first two working keys. Then just cycle the two working keys and a third, repeating the process for each key.

Go it figured out for anyone else struggling. This YouTube video and the comment. Removing the unlimited key mode allowed me
to learn keys correctly.@stanwalker8924 (https://www.youtube.com/@stanwalker8924)

I had the identical problem on a 2007 Ford Exployer after PCM change. I spent many hours trying to program. Your video helped and I thought I would need a cluster. Found code P1260 locked into PCM. Did 10 minute security access again for the 20th time. Reset the unlimited key mode to disabled or turned it to off mode. Then did parameter reset. Did the key programming and the keys worked with security lamp indications just like yours and the vehicle started. I hope this helps you and others.
