If you are using the 100 series remote start with the remote start built into the key fob, and the keys are OEM, then the fob buttons will work once you program the key in the ignition. You will still need to activate the remote start feature in the BCM (and IPC {dash display} if you want to control the settings).

FWIW, a local locksmith charged $6.50 to cut the two remote start keys that came in the Ford kit. I'm not sure how much anyone else would charge, but that was dang sure cheap insurance to know it was being done right. Those Ford keys ain't cheap.

Regular in that it doesn't have the remote, yes. Regular as in going into your local locksmith/walmart/hardware store and walk out with a $3 brass spare that will start the truck, no.

It's going to be somewhat pricey and will require use of a diagnostic scan tool to program the key, but it's cheaper than generating from scratch when you lose your only one.

I would consult with a local locksmith that has a physical storefront location.

There are two ways to program that new key - clone or programmed as a new unique key. You want the second, then you can buy additional keys and program them yourself. A clone makes the truck think there is one key, you just have to copies of it.

I do residential construction part time, from framing to roofing. I want as little as possible in my pockets at the time, so I bought a couple of non-remote rfid OEM Ford keys off eBay ( of the correct transponder frequency) and had them cut by a locksmith for just a few dollars and programmed them into the truck myself. You can unlock the door using the key, then you have 10 seconds or so to use the key to start the truck.

i also went to Lowes and had a plain non-transponder key made and hid it underneath my truck. If you every lock you keys inside, you can use this key to unlock the door to gain access. This is also handy for sports persons who jog, bike, fish, swim, etc. just lock your keys inside and take to simple cheap water proof key with you.

Correct! Cloning is a thing but there can be downsides to it.

1. The cloning that gets done at a hardware store/walmart/etc is usually going to be done on kind of an outdated system that uses volatile memory and a watch battery to maintain power to the key. There's no telling how long that it sat on the shelf before you got it, and the second that it goes dead, your key no longer works.
2. Some of the more common cloneable carbon chips have range issues that may lead in intermittent starts, a key that only starts when inserted one way, or keys that just wont program/don't work.

Sometimes lock guys will even use cloneable chips in lieu of 'real' chips by writing data from a blank key file to the blank cloning chip and just use it as a regular transponder key which works most of the time. The problem there is that some of the output values from the chip aren't super strong and some of the immobilizer rings don't have great range.

You can read the data, it looks like a regular 80-bit chip, just doesn't reach far enough for the vehicle to communicate with it.
