I know many have said before when I mentioned it that I should get the selling dealer, not a Ford dealer, to pay for the code, but that's not going to happen after the fact. My bad for not thinking of it during the negotiations. Never had a car with a key code deal!

Appreciate any and all help. hate having a feature I can't use![/QUOTE]

How long ago did you buy the truck from the other dealer? Is it still under their warranty period? If you can't use the keypad the truck is broken. Push the issue with them saying that you will turn them into the state for failing to provide warranty work on something they sold.

My wife bought a used VW from out of state. While it was being delivered the power window stopped working. When our local dealer took the door apart they found that there were broken things inside the door panel and the whole panel needed to be replaced. Selling dealer refused to pay for it saying we should have noticed that when we test drove it-like we can see through the door panel. I pushed the issue and they finally caved when I said I was going to go through their state courts. That was for $750!

For the sake of the dealerships reputation, THEY (the dealer)... or whomever sold you the car should eat the $50. IMO...

Its called Customer Satisfaction... and in fact, if they are any kind of reseller, they should have pull to get it done... again, JMO...

x2

while back, i posted that i added an oem keypad. i had the code, etc., etc. i would do as rick suggested. i get pm's all the time when someone has added a keypad as i did and it simply does not work. the factory code is supposed to work without programming. i don't know why they don't. i don't know what the percentage of those that work and don't work. most of them are probably fixed before the sale. i am sure there is not a large number of folks who are adding the keypad after purchase.

several others and i have had to have the origingal code programmed. for whatever reason, the one given on the card doesn't match up with the vin #. ford charges $51 for hook up the scanner? i guess they have to make money, too. i would tell the dealer it doesn't work and let him figure it out. let us know what you do and the outcome.

I agree, I think this is the best advice. Actually, its a really smart way to get your code for free. There is no such thing as "resetting to factory default" because the factory code always works. The system keeps the factory code + 1 user set code. They will just have to look up the original code through the scanner, so they can verify that the system really does work.

Keep in mind, you're not lying to them...completely. Without a code, the system really doesn't work. Hell, the system may really NOT work....how would you know?

I am not one who enjoys taking advantage, but I think this idea is a good one and one I was reserving for last resort. I was hopefull I could find the code someplace and not have to take the time to go to the dealer etc.

I will call a local dealer tomorrow and try to set up an appointment, PIA as this might be.

Thanks all!!

blue stripe is correct. you can add a customized code. if someone resets to another customized code, it replaces the other customized code, not the original code.

Default 2010 F150 Factory keypad 5-digit code

I lost my card with the factory code. I then searched and searched the internets...and then...I found FOUND IT!!!

I cant take the credit, ROGER from this link posted the info on where to find it. I thought I would share as its not easiliy found and include pictures.

For a 2010 F150 (mines SCREW) its located on the back of the SJB (smart junction box).

For the best part, if you have good eyes, you dont even need tools.

1. Take the fuse panel cover off.
This is located at the floor board on the passenger side.
2. Take the plastic corner molding off, it just pulls out but be careful not to break it.
3. Look behind the SJB for the 5-digit code.
If you can't see it. Removing the two 7mm bolts which will allow you to move the SJB out enough to see it better.

Step 1. Fuse Panel location:

Step 2. Remove the plastic corner piece

Step 3: Look behind the SJB on the white label for the 5-digit code

Step 4: If you can't see it, loosen two 7mm bolts so you will have a better view.

5. Move the SJB out a little so you have a better view of the white label to find the 5-digit code. Mine was in the area highlighted in red below.

Nice!

I bought my truck in November and didn't discover until December that I didn't have the code card. I checked all of the places folks said to check on the '09 and earlier models but found nothing.

I eventually took it into the dealer and he admited that the card often gets left out (the tin-foil hat wearer in me suspects they keep them for future access), and retrieved it for me for free.
