Just an thought...opinions?
So I was thinking today, which doesn't happen too often, and I started thinking about both the performance and mileage of my truck. Now before you start thinking this is about numbers let me explain.
I used to own a sport bike, as I'm sure a lot of you do or have. Now here comes my thought. My bike had a little switch on it that would adjust the performance. It had A,B,and C settings. A is full race mode/ performance mode. And C was a dumbed down setting that essentially cut the power.
I noticed that while on A mode I was getting half the distance I would than if I was on C mode.
Now...what would stop not just Ford but any motor company from implementing this into these trucks?
The truck could hypothetically carry 2 or 3 tunes (made by the manufacturer of course) and the user could then choose what ever is most appropriate to their application and needs.
Then we could have the benefit of all worlds. We could put the truck in fuel efficient mode while on a road trip. (C mode) Maybe a tow mode for a weekend camper trip or maybe on a work truck. (B mode) Or lastly, and the funnest, a performance mode for guys/gals that like to feel the power of these awesome trucks. (A mode)
Just a thought of mine...anyone think it's a good idea?
I'd also like to know what everyone would find wrong with something like this. I think this would be especially good for us Ecoboost owners since our trucks react quite well with tunes...

I thought about this too, Especially for the Ecoboost. Other manufacturers are implementing "Eco mode" that changes shift patterns and torque management on the fly. My parents had a 2010 GMC Terrain 4 cylinder that did this. Why Couldn't Ford implement one of those buttons that cuts boost from...say...17psi to 10psi for mileage purposes? I'm sure they could pull great mileage from this method, while offering the power when you want it in "Normal" mode.
Most of the aftermarket tuners provide this functionality. I've got this ability with the engine management on my Audi from APR, and it always seems to stay in Stage III mode (93 octane). I see your point though for fuel economy, but for me...if I have a truck with 400hp, I want 400hp all the time!
Was just talking about this with a friend, so stupid that they don't. They have the SVT division for this type of thing. And hell I'd be happy to pay the 500 bucks for tunes from
Ford just as I would from aftermarket. They know the engine inside and out and have the testing resources, better yet it wouldn't be a guessing game with the warranty.

Two words...Big Government! Powers to be want to control the MPG of our vehicles, track our movement and spend our money! Tree huggers would be outraged that the auto manufacturers would allow us to burn more fuel than we already do now. With legislation already making automakers to make automobiles and light duty trucks get 55 MPH by 2025 model year...which will reduce our dependency of foreign oil. Only time will tell if they can accomplish this in the next 11 years! My truck averages 16-17 MPH now so it would need to increase 3x's more than current models. Again, who knows what automakers can get done...but it is a lofty goal! I can only imagine that you will be seeing an entirely different power plant under the hood to achieve these numbers!
IMO, manufacturers don't want to give you an option that would allow the customer to have that much control of their vehicle!! There is my rant for today!

lol doubleg71, it's a conspiracy!! Yeah I know what you mean but right now you can get economy tunes that pretty much "dials down" the turbos on the EB and it gets amazing mileage. I use the EB because hypothetically if it were a NA V6 it would have he potential to get amazing mileage.
