Just Ordered Truck Remote Start Question
Keep in mind the dumbass trying to talk you out of it lives in California and I live in North Dakota. Yes, if youve never had one before you will love it at first, however if you ever use a better one further down the road and as you discover the limitations of the factory one you will be saying Damn, shoulda listened to Sultan Gris! You may not care about alarm or starting your vehicle from inside a bigger metal building right now, but as you have your truck longer Im betting that you will. Im just telling ya that now is the time to change it if they have not already installed it. Get refunded back, add a couple hundred dollars and get a better system, its only gonna cost you double, or you will have to live with sub par system if you dont do it now. I live in ND and use mine all the time in the winter, hell, I dont even wear a coat in the winter, though I do always have one and other winter survival gear in my truck. If im just going from my house to my truck and my truck to a building I dont bother wearing one as you are only outside a few minutes, so I want my truck to start and be warm when i press the button from inside the movie theater or whatever building I happen to be in when i parked a long ways away. I dont like the hassle of going to the mall or whatever and having to carry a coat around, so I dont wear one and i leave it in the truck so i need a remote start system that will ensure my truck is warm when I get there, factory wont get it done. The longer you have a remote start living in the frozen wasteland of Canada the more you will see I was right. I will never own another vehicle without one.
You have them both installed at the same time with no issues? I have the astro start also and love it but want to upgrade to a viper with alarm so I only have one fob that controls the alarm and the starter.
not now. had to disable one wire (beleive astrostart to the horn) that had no effect on anything. works flawlessly now. best of both worlds i guess.
I'm adding the factory one to my truck instead of afermarket just because i dont like that blank spot on my IKT -
If i was getting an aftermarket, would definitely get the Viper with the cell phone start.

It kind of sounds like you got your feelings hurt that someone on this forum didn't take your recommendation on getting the Viper. I could care less who gets what but I'm just doing what people come to this forum to do and that's post a question and listen to what people have to say and then make a decision based on what they've read. Calling someone a dumbass only shows your immaturity and your intelligence! Have a good night!
I will guarantee that if he goes factory he will regret not getting a better one later down the road.

If he gets a cheap crappy one hes gonna be pissed when it doesnt work as good at an aftermarket will, Im just trying to clue him in to that fact now. I really dont care what kind he gets or even if he listens at all, but Ive been using remote start systems for over 10 years now, have had cheap crap and have had good ones and Im giving him the information to help him make the right decision for his needs. You dont even wanna know how many times ive though it started when it really didnt or when I was trying to start it from inside a building and it wouldnt work till I walked outside. Getting a good pageback one with a long range will eliminate those problems. If he doesnt want an alarm I would get an astro start, which is what I currently have, but now I want an alarm so im looking at a viper and its gonna cost me twice as much cause I will have to buy both, Im just trying to clue him in to that he might want a better one later, but now is the time to buy instead of wasting money on the factory one, put that money towards a good one and be good later on. Make no mistake, I know what im talking about and have extensive experience in the matter and you clearly dont.

I went aftermarket for several reasons. My bought the truck for me. It came with no power locks. When I talked to the dealer about adding a remote start with alarm and upgrade to power locks I got blank stares. Then they tried to talk me out of doing the locks. They said it would be expensive. But they could not even give me a price. They took my number to call back with a price but never did.
I went with a viper system. It is a two way system. It has a one mile range.
At this point I don't see the need to call my truck from a cell to start it, but I can add it later if I wish.
From what I have sen here it cost more then the Ford system. But you get what you pay for.
