Default Just Ordered Truck Remote Start Question

Well I finally took the plunge and ordered my truck this weekend.
2011 FX4 - Sterling Grey (originally going to get white, but saw the grey and was sold!),ECO!!!, LUX, 20's, FX running boards, Moonroof and command start.

I always thought the command start was factory installed??. I have since found out it is dealer installed???. Does this system include the fob and key in one? Is this the only system?? what does everyone else get when they order their truck with command start? Anyways super pumped on the new truck and can't wait to get it! Pictures will follow!

If at all possible and if you have a little extra cash I would recommend you cancel that remote start and buy an alarm with remote start combo, but a good one. I regret not doing this myself and will soon be ripping out a 380$ after market remote start that is 100 times better than ford factory remote start to replace with a good alarm/starter system. People are recommending a Viper system but I havent fully completed researching the best one yet and so far the viper is looking really good.

I would doubt its a Ford Dealer install.. I just got my 2011 and will be adding a factory ford system myself (if you look I have a thread about it) there are two systems 1 uses the keyfob and has a button to start it, downside is that system is only rated to 300 feet and does not let you know if it started or not. System two uses a seperate remote that does let you know your truck started and is rated to 1000 feet. Both systems just plug right in, and are quite easy to install (or so it seems by the instructions) anyways if it is dealer install no one near me will be getting one since both dealers near me when I asked them about the new systems on the 2011's looked at me like I was stupid when I told them it just plugged in and asked them how much it was just to activate it. The one dealer didnt have a clue or even knew they could do that...

I had a viper in my last truck with the two way pager and that is the way to go, confirms locking, starting, and if anyone is tampering with it. My factory remote start has to be in direct line of sight for it to work. My viper would work up to a mile away and I tested it up to 7 tenths of a mile.

So there is no "factory installed" system rather 2 options that are "plug and play" and as far as I understand the buttons are built into the key in the 2011's is that correct?

The two "plug and play" sytems I mentioned are factory ford systems, at least on the parts website they are

Remote start is not a dealer installed option... it comes from the factory and yes, it is built into the on-key fob.

You can also order a remote start from the parts department and have your dealer install it (to keep your warranty good). This remote start works at a much greater distance.

I got my truck with remote start from the factory because it was part of the FX4 Luxury Package, and, because I won't need to start my truck from 1000 feet.

I'd recommend getting an aftermarket two way alarm starter installed on it. the factory system is useless. i installed a compustar system on my truck and i love it. only this is when the truck starts up it runs for 15 minutes, but when it turns off automatically the radio stays on until some one opens the front two doors. u jus have to get the tech whos installed ur starter to link the door pin to unlock and lokc after shut down.

Well this whole situation is confusing then. I ordered the LUX package and remote start (its marked in my accessories included options). The dealer also mentioned that they would be adding the remote start once it arrived..WTF?? I need clarification from him obviously since I want the factory installed (fob built into the key)..he also said it was plug and play. I really don't give two ****s if its installed after or before...just as long as its the in-key fobs.

Remote start kit BC3Z-19G364-A is the same as the factory model - whether the dealer or the factory installs it its the same thing.

Also, just about every F-150 available has a factory alarm system now - it's a simple "doors were opened without using the keyfob alarm" but its good enough for me.
