I have one on my truck and it works like a charm. One of the best mods to date. If you take the advice of others in here as to how they placed the foam and installed the cable you will have no issues. I agree their instructions should tell you how to install it properly right out of the box, but a bit of research in here would have shown you the cable pinching issues.

I opened my buddy's tailgate which didn't have the shock (and also was not spring assisted) and damn near broke it off the back of his truck...oops!

LoL... Maybe someone will create an electric tailgate that opens and closes from the key fob, like mini vans/suv's do with the hatch.

Yes, put foam on cable and with the gate patially closed make sure it lines up with bottom of the damper. The I used little zip ties on the top and bottom then used a lighter and carefully shrunk the plastic around the foam. This foam is what prevents the cable from pinching.

I agree, that clip needs to be thicker as mine also bent a little. I just bent it back and used zip ties to support it and it has been solid ever since.

Overall, not bad for $30 IMO.

+1

I had the same problem with the foam as the OP. However, the washer trick works great. Same with the zip ties to secure the clip.
