Default IWE solenoid

f150 2004--grinding noise in 2wd, goes away if I switch it to 4wd. I am thinking it may be the iwe solenoid. Vacuum hoses seem to be good on both sides at the IWE. Is it OK to drive it in 4H until I get the solenoid replaced?

If you switch back and forth from 4WD to 2WD around 30mph or so, can you get the sound to stop? That's what I did for a week or so until I had it replaced.

My hoses are unhooked, I've been driving around now for a couple months. No issues to report. Your front shafts stay connected, like in a live axle setup.

Yeah.. you don't want to drive around in 4WD on dry pavement.. just disconnect the vacuum line from the solenoid.. this will allow the IWE's to engage and stop making noise.. without having to be in 4WD. I.e.. hubs will just be locked.

Just make sure you've got them capped too, you don't want the system ingesting anything and clogging the lines or solenoid up.

Yea, the hoses got screws and the nipples got some heatshrink, I'm gonna check them to see how things have held up.

I might just invest in the IWE delete kit. I didn't see a huge drop in mileage having the front spinning and it's piece of mind the system won't fail again.
