I have a 2013 FX4 5.0 with just under 75,000 miles. I started to get an intermittent battery light. Any known issues with this or remedies? After I went down the road of spending too much money on parts I probably didn't need, I read up on a few things but don't know where to start. I bought a new battery, old one (Motorcraft) was testing bad. I put a new alternator on and have tested it so I know it is good. While taking the alternator off the water pump completely let go and spewed coolant so I had to put on a new water pump. Since everything was apart I put in a new thermostat, new serpentine belts, and tensioners. Fortunately everything was brought in for under 700 bucks, it is good to know people. After all this I went to have the BCM flashed at the dealership and they also updated the PCM while there. I feel like all the bases have been covered and I am still getting the same intermittent battery light. HELP!
Had this same issue on my 2013. Took it to the dealer cause it was under warranty and they found the main lug on the fuse box was loose. This is the main feed from the battery to the fuse box over the radiator. Have not had the light come on since and that has been about 18 mos ago.
Really appreciate the feedback. If anyone else has experience with this and has seen other causes I am all ears. Another piece of information to add to the original thread is despite not having a voltage meter on the dash I was able to hook up to the truck and monitor the voltage while driving. Even when the light is on I am still right at 14.7V or 14.8V. It makes me think there is something causing the light to go on like a broken/lose wire or connection somewhere just as the first reply would suggest.
Battery light has been intermittent. Also wouldn’t start one day but ended up starting later on. Pulled fuse 27 under the hood and the housing was melted. They sell a fuse relocation kit just for this issue. Very common problem I guess.
Old thread, but good warning for people who haven't done their Fuse27 relocates yet.
Also, trucks are for sure old enough that the main ground points need addressing - body to frame grounds, two of them, undo, clean off dirt and corrosion, dielectric grease on them and reattach, cover in silicone sealer afterward if you want. There is one for the EPAS too, worth doing, everything odd and electrical on Ford's is worth doubling down on.
What is fuse 27, where are you relocating it to, and why does that solve the problem...?
its the fuel pump fuse.
the fuse holder in that panel isn't sufficient for the system - the holder itself melts and sometimes melts the fuse with it. you're basically opening up that box, cutting the wires/ attaching new ones and inserting them into an existing, open slot in the fuse panel and inserting a new fuse.
