They did have it a couple years ago because I got one for the other car. You can get a separate remote display that's only about 1"x1"x2.5" that's similar to what you see on the regular V1 which can then be concealed and dark (this one isn't waterproof so can't go in the grill, cost on that one was a little steep).

I installed the remote display in a ashtray type drawer so when I leave the car I can just slide the drawer shut, voila no V1!

Great job on the install! That mount look extremely sturdy, and being mounted just below the mirror does make it look more factory. I ended up keeping the original V1 mount with mine, and mounted just above the mirror. The best thing is that looking at the truck from the front, you cannot tell it is up there.

I read that the material on the front windshield may block some of the performance, but I have yet to notice much of a difference. Personally I have used a Bel and an Escort, but the arrows....well once you live with them, it's hard to live without them

When I ran the wires, I tucked them in the overhead liner, then unbolted the passenger grab handle (only 2 bolts and it pulls right off), ran the wires underneath that and hard-wired it to a switched 12V wire. This way if I decide to go with the remote display unit I can just plug that into the extra outlet. I even had an idea to do a sort of HUD (heads up display) to make it more descrete and convenient, but have not figured out a way to make that work as of yet - any suggestions for this would be GREAT!!

If they ever did, and pretty sure you may have confused it with another brand, they dont any more. They state their reasons on the V1 site.

Not sure if you were confusiing the remote display which allowed you to place a display (arrows/lights) at a location that was not visible from outside the vehicle or in a better spot for the driver.

As far as the Invisicord. I bought a 'clone' for about $8 off Ebay and works like a champ. Only issue I had was it wasnt compatiple with the Iphone interface I got for the V1. So I moved the 'invisicord' to my Tahoe and kept the V1 hardwire install kit in my 150.

I looked at the Blendmount a while ago butas I tend to keep mine mounted all the time (Discouraged/not allowed) on Military bases it became too much a a PITA to constantly take the detector down. I simply put it behind the black dots on the window and shut it off while on base.

I've run with the V1 for years and wanted a second detector for my roadster. I got the Passport 9500xi and LOVE IT. I've since retired my V1 and move the Passport between the truck and the car. The Passport has weekly updates and GPS. The GPS successfully records false alerts for me so during my daily trips I don't get false alerts. It also tells me where photo radars are and where red light cameras are. When V1 upgrades to the GPS and the photo radar mapping, I'll give it another shot.

We don't have photo radar or red light cameras here, nor do they in most places in the US. In 25+ years of driving I've never gotten a ticket from either of those. So the fact that my V1 chooses not to offer those features is fine with me. I like the fact that it sticks to the basics and does that very well.

In my 30+ years of driving I've had a couple (WA, OR, AZ). I assume you have GPS signals available. The nuisance annunciations from the V1 did it in for me. The Passport auto attenuates after a few seconds which I really appreciate. I would HIGHLY recommend that V1 users try the 9500ix. If valentine would incorporate GPS plus red-light and photo radar warning I'd go for it. Those features coupled with the arrows would be nirvana.

If you haven't experienced the joy of no false alarms then try it and let me know.

BTW I have the blendmount in my roadster and love it. It's expensive but high quality.

I don't get false alarms with my V1. I tried the passport and prefer the V1.

No false alarms? Wow... I simply don't know what to say. Logic has left the conversation. I'm taking my critical thinking skills and going home.

I have x band disabled since it is not used here so the only time my V1 alerts is if Ka or laser is present. neither of which has any other application on the road other than speed limit enforcement. So i don't get false alarms. You find that hard to believe?

This thread really isn't a which is better debate. It's about helping people interested in installing a radar detector. They have solutions for your radar detector also. Enjoy what you have, different devices will suit people differently.
