Installing Bilstein 5100's - Anything I need to know?
I just ordered my 5100's, ended up getting fronts and backs. For anyone looking to get some, I ended up ordering mine through summit racing but price matched autoplicity to get the best price. Cost for the front 94.23 each, cost for rear 74.33 each. Lowest prices I could find out there. Should have them any day, going to have them installed locally (about 230 for the front including alignment, 70 bucks for the rear to be installed). Planning to have the front done on the top setting based on my factory stance.
I haven't got mine in yet, I read about people saying they had to use a jack to compress it and it was a pain. So with them strapped, you can install them completely then release? If that is the case, I'll probably save myself the money and do it myself.
you dont need a jack, you can compress them by pushing on them while on the ground to get the bolt through the hole. super easy.
I've only had mine on for about 600 miles. I have mine on the highest setting also and the matching rear shocks. Highway and running around town the ride (IMHO) is better to me.
One stretch of highway to my work has the concrete blocks (I think that is what you call it) so you are always going over seems with a bump bump bump bump. Stock shocks it was kinda harsh at 70mph...the bilsteins smoothed them out for me.
I haven't taken them offroad yet but I will see how they do.
The shop here installed the fronts for $50 for each side and did both rears for $25 bucks. Then got an alignment.
I had the ReadyLift SST on my old 07 Tundra and I wished I got the bilsteins now that I know how it rides.
YMMV though

I called bilstein and they said they were designed for boot down install. It would seem that way as the piston would be moving and not the whole shock body, done with boot up the whole shock body is movie, more mass, and I would rather have it the other way.
I did the rears myself, didn't even take the tires off.
I guess it depends on who you talk to there.
