installing backup camera and have wiring question
I have a 2014 SCREW STX. I am installing a backup camera and i have a question in regards to the wires on the driver side. The camera that i have the way that it's wired and setup I have to tap into the reverse lights in the cab and not in the rear. I also have to tap into switched power in the front as well. I've looked all over and have found half answers or other recommendations such as tap in at the rear, but i can't. Or tap into the passenger side fuse box. What i'm trying to find out is what wire do I need to tap into on the driver side kick panel for reverse and switched power. i've heard for reverse it's yellow, gray, or brown. for power i've heard pink, black and about everything else. Any help would be greatly appreciated and i tried to search it myself and I've actually seen the same question asked about the same exact truck for the same camera but the question never got answered it just to other recommendations. I appreciate it in advance.

Sorry man , I thought I had a wire diagram probably do , cant find it ... I run mine off a separate switch , dont want the cam on every time I go in reverse and it was much easier than finding that wire in the cab , Its there just couldn't say which one ... also have a switch for front cam if I need it ..... Best bet is to keep searching the forums , its here someplace or google it , usually brings you back here .... One thing that does suck is that not all the wire colors are the same , even in the same yr truck .. its like they ran out of one color mid yr and switched it ... and your owners manual may not be updated to the color you have .... Pretty screwy
No problem, just can't get an answer. I probably could run to passenger side and tap into the fuses, any suggestions on running wires to passenger side (through firewall on passenger side, or running from driver side to passenger side)

Would you not need to have power going to the reverse lights to activate the camera? If so, I would think that you could tie that wire into the your trucks wiring that supplies power to the reverse lights when the shifter is engaged in reverse. Why you would need to have it installed in the cab is puzzling as the switch that sends power to most reverse lights is mounted on the trans. I have rarely ever seen that switch in the cab but who the hell knows how these idiots are wiring cars now a days. (Toyota comes to mind with their brilliant idea of having the electronics for the gas over ride the brakes. Obviously the engineers did not talk to a Mechanic who would have told them that that would be a stupid idea, I mean hey while we are at it, why not just make the brakes fail if the ABS stops working) If you must wire it in the cab, find the wire that sends the signal when the truck is placed in reverse and tie in there.(?) I would suspect that tying into the power wire for the reverse light would work just fine provided that they do not supply to much power.(?) This means that you could tie in at the back of the bed where the reverse light is getting power. A very short run and these wires are easily reached, just pull the lens cover off if need be and there is your power to activate the camera to turn on. I don't know your set up and it's power requriements but these should be easily found in the directions and all connections measured with a volt meter.
As for switched power, I would tie into a power sourse that it energized by the key in the "Run" position. You should have more than plenty to chose from in the fuse box, just put your test light on all the fuses with the key off and check for power, if you have no power, check to see if power comes on only with the key in the run position, when you find this wire, check which circuit it is and if comfortable, tie into that circuit on the output side of the fuse, now your camera is also fused.
Hope this helps

Just tie the cam power wire into the reverse light wire in the rear. My aftermarket radio is cam ready and the set up im looking at says to jjst tie the power wire into the reverse lights in the rear. Now, your's maybe different, but should work as stated by fly.
