Default Code P0018

Have a 2010 F150 with a 5.4 with a little over a 100,000 miles. Check engine light came on yesterday and engine idles rough. Checked with a code checker and came up with P0018 Crankshaft Position Correlation B2 SA.
It’s been minus 25 to 35 here for last couple weeks as well.
Is this the start of the cam phaser issue?

Probably an issue with one of your vct solenoids. Does the truck sound like a diesel when it's at operating temperature and idling? Any rattle on cold startup? Could be something as simple as having the wrong oil filter (without an anti back flow valve). You should always use a Motorcraft filter when possible, or a quality replacement that has an anti back flow valve. Vct solenoids can be DIY if you are slightly handy, requires removal of the valve cover on the affected side. Bad vct will cause a rough idle, bad timing tensioner or guides will cause a rattle at cold startup, bad phasers will also cause rough idle and throw codes.

No it doesn’t rattle anymore than it did when new. Even though I’m a heavy truck mechanic it gets serviced at ford since new. Their top electrical guy can’t look at it till next week. I’m out of town working so wife will take it in and get it diagnosed and will go from there.

I'm curious why an oil filter without an ABFV could cause the P0018 code and others to be thrown? I recently changed my oil using a Motorcraft FL820S on my 2008 F150 (5.4 V8) and had the engine throw 6 codes and had the problems as described previously. Not once before the oil change did I have any engine problems. The problem seemed to have went away later that day after turning the truck off and back on. My only theory is that maybe a piece of dirt or something was lodged in the ABFV keeping it open to let the oil flow out, and when I restarted the truck it dislodged the object into the filter, so now the ABFV is working properly again. I have been running it for several days now without any incident or codes being thrown. Any insight as to why this happens, would be appreciated. Thanks.
