If you have a 2013 with Nav, is it worth it?

I'm still using my Garmin even though the truck has Nav. I don't like that it turns off the screen interface when you are moving and I don't find the voice controls very intuitive.
It's slow, cumbersome and often just doesn't work. The searching is terrible. You have to know the city before you put in the street number otherwise it stubbornly refuses to find the address.
I love the truck but the Nav is pretty crappy.

I think we are spoiled by the speed and rapid release cycles of modern tablet computers and interfaces such as the iPad. I knew going in that MFT would be slow and somewhat cumbersome and I wasn't surprised when I got my truck. It is slow and cumbersome. I wish it was faster and more intuitive, I hate rotating the heat ****, or pressing the fan speed and it showing up on the screen with quite a bit of delay. Changing from AM to FM when you are in any other screen other than "Entertainment" is also a pain, where it used to be a press of the "Band" button, or a preset button. Still, it is interesting and I would miss all of the available features if it wasn't there. It would be nice if the hardware was upgradable.
My previous truck, a 2003 F-150 FX4 didn't have any tech. The new truck (2013 FX4) has all the do-dads. I bought it off the lot and it has a very nice set of features and is the nicest vehicle I've (or anybody in my family) has ever owned.
Still, if I was going to special order one, I'd skip the Nav.
The rest of it (MFT) is ok. For me (computer guy), my lifetime supply of patience for all things Microsoft is used up. If the thing ever blue-screens, you guys will read about me in the news...I'll be the pyscho they'll find on the side of the road pumping 357's into the side of my truck.

MFT nav is really good. Plus you get free map updates! At $800 I say go for it.
But as far as the system itself goes, I'm so fed up with Microsoft crap, Everything that Microsoft has been responsible for that Ford installed has gotten flack, first it was the primitive sync system, next the Windows ME (or something of the like) based MFT hardware. Such a great layout and concept backed by weak sauce hardware from a two-bit computer company.
BTW, I've seen MFT crash in the Focus. It comes up with an old windows warning popup that says "desktop has crashed" or something. I had to laugh..

Mine's a 2012, so it is the older screen and no MFT, but on the move I press the steering wheel TALK button *chime* then say "Navigation Destination Street Address" (all at once) and follow the prompts, sometimes hitting the talk button to interrupt/speed up the chime prompt. NAV as an $800 option with free map upgrades sure sounds better than the $2500 and $$$$ for future maps that I opted for on the '12.

It's an expensive option and I have made every effort to avoid the call of the NAV. My most recent truck had it installed and rather than continue to shop around for a similar truck without the big screen I opted to give it a try. Having used it for several months I'm not wholly disappointed nor impressed. The large screen is nice for the navigation and back up camera. Other features are redundant.

After posting yesterday about no "band" button for the radio, I got in my truck to drive home from work and realized there was a "media" button in the centre of the radio presets. So I though, oh, I screwed up there is a "band" button, sort of. I pressed it and the system hung for a full minute and the MFT was completely unresponsive, I thought it crashed, but it finally came responsive again. Won't do that again.
It reminds me of the smartphone/tablet market before Apple came along (going to get flamed from the Apple haters here) and revolutionized the experience. Lagginess was normal, bad software was ok, battery life was terrible, and hardware was poor to mediocre. It would never happen, but Apple need to redo the hardware/software.

Lol..that would make my MFT experience more frustrating.
The early system on the focus we have is a dismal, awful failure but my mom has it in her 2013 MKX and it's actually pretty livable. I just think Ford should've worked on the system before chucking it into the most popular vehicle in America. And by that I mean ditch the POS Microsoft OS and spend a little more money to get decent hardware to match the otherwise excellent software idea. And they need to do that before putting it in more fords.
