Suction cups are for kids lol. this is my $4.00 version of the blendmount. Same idea as the blendmount but at a more acceptable price. Parts are all from home depot and took me literally 10 minutes to assemble. You also need the hardwire kit for a clean install because nothing looks more ghetto than that cord running from your detector to the 12v plug in.

Parts list
1 L bracket(top piece)
1 T bracket(middle piece)
3 sets of screws and bolts
1 ring thing(forgot what its called lol its basically a ring type clamp where you screw the bolt and it tightens, you need this to mount to your mirror).
the bottom piece is your clip that comes with your detector

It's slow, painful, but looks factory, I promise.

For The Smart Cord hard wire kit: Remove rubber pad on the shelf above the Nav screen. Drill hole under mounting area & punch hole through rubber pad. Feed the radar Smart Cord wire through rubber pad, through dash until the remote is flush. I used Velcro to hold the remote unit to the rubber pad.
(If you know how, you can removed the trim pieces around radio / nav, areas to maybe make it easier.)

I mentioned fuse box earlier, but I was wrong. I found a power wire that was energized with the key behind the dash. Don't remember which on, but test many. I think it may have been the one behind the coin holder on 2wd trucks dash. Ran the kits power wires to it.

Then ran radar detector feed cord (the one that looks like a telephone wire) across under dash, up side pillar that I loosen and pulled back to have room. Then tucked the wire into headliner until I reach mirror area, then tucked into factory wire harness outer cover behind mirror, then plugged into the detector.

Comes on every time I start my truck.

Since you mentioned you have an 8500, this is the one that I used (fits your too) for my 9500.

I use Blendmounts. Personally it blocks your view, but for sure it doesn't move even over the roughest terrain. I tie in to the mirror power, pretty easy to do.

I have the big suction cup from Escort for the 9500ix and the Redline, but they are pretty much worthless when its too hot or cold at all.

The wire that plugs into the back of the mirror can be purchased from the blendmount website. I didn't want to pay that much, so I made my own.

Here are the terminals you need:

For my V1, I just crimped and soldered 2 of these terminals onto the end of a cheap piece of phone cord that I cut to about 6 inches. With shrink tubing over the terminals, it looks and works great. I already had the blue shrink tube, so I colored it black with a marker to make it less visible.

BlendMount with a wireless Escort S2 Solo in my truck. Looks great--works great, but a bit pricey at $80. No more suction cups--they suck!
