Default Husky mud flaps, painted

I bought a set of Husky flaps and decided to paint them. I was going to just paint them a more-glossy black than what is stock, using a plastic specific paint. As luck would have it, Krylon makes an off-white plastic paint that was oh-so close to the white chocolate colour of my truck. The spray bomb was enough for 5 coats on each.

I think in hind-sight that I should have painted the inside, at least a stripe, to match the inside lip which is/was body colour and leave the rest black as its gonna get dirty anyways.

The fit is very good. You must remove the rear tires to properly drill and screw 2 of the 5 rear screws. The fronts can be done by turning the wheels.

I've been thinking about doing the same on my '10 Lariat. I like the look of white mud flaps. My concern is how the paint holds up in winter conditions. I live in MN, and mudflaps take a beating from the slop and snow. I'm also wondering how the painted flaps hold up in a automatic car wash. Have you taken yours through a wash yet?

Good Q. I painted the wife's Caliber's flaps with black plastic specific paint, and it has held up very well for 3 winters. Then again, its black on black so if the paint was chipped or thinned out, you would not notice.

No- I do not go through car washes so I do not know how it holds up. I do use a pressure washer at times but would not blast at these.

Cheers

Good luck, looks great. But being a painter, plastic is a pain to get paint to stick to. Hope it holds on.

I used the Krylon "for plastic" paint and also hope it sticks.

Click for info.

I have used that Krylon Fusion before and had excellent results - on my old Pathfinder I painted some little grille pieces (on top of the hood near where the windshield wipers are) with that stuff and it held up for 3+ years under the snow and ice and etc.
