How-To: Upgrade 4.2" Sync to 8" MFT
#81
If your current hub has only a USB port and a 3.5 mm Aux input jack, then you'll need to add the power and ground wires to your APIM connector and splice those to the WPT1239 pigtail to power the new media hub.

so i compared 2014 apim to 2016 and everything looks like it matches up on the plug, ford must have changed the ICAN network to HS3, its in the same spot. This is from my service manuals i have available to me at this time. The media hub in the center console will need to be modified for the 2016, the 2016 needs 12v instead of the 5v
If the center console media hub currently has an SD card slot and USB port(s), it already has 12v in the harness going to it, 5v is probably power at the USB ports.
If the media hub is a basic hub with only USB and a 3.5mm aux jack, there probably is no power and that would need to be added via a power and ground wire off the APIM connector. The pin swaps I listed a few pages back show the pins that are needed for each.
Besides the media hub wiring, the APIM connectors are same pinouts/wiring between Sync 2/MFT and Sync 3.

thats the info i was looking for thanks, so 2017 flex as built is what needs to used when programing the apim for climate controls? i just thought about doing this last moth after completing my interior swap, but looks even easier than i though.

Does your current media module have an SD card slot and USB ports? If so, you'll need the WPT1239 pigtail - Ford P/N CU2Z-14S411-A. There is power and ground on the harness going to the current media hub that you'll need to tap into.
If your current hub has only a USB port and a 3.5 mm Aux input jack, then you'll need to add the power and ground wires to your APIM connector and splice those to the WPT1239 pigtail to power the new media hub.

Also, did you use the OEM GPRS Antenna with the Blue Fakra Adapter? or are you able to use any GPRS Antenna?
Thanks for putting up with all my questions.

the bezel is the really hard part to find depending on what your truck currently has. for example i have a 13 XLT with the standard climate controls. every single bezel i have found is for the dual climate controls. currently working on some ways to make it work but nothing concrete yet.
i went to a dealer and there are only 8 new bezels left in the county for what i/you would need (again, depending on your climate controls). the downside is that they are $350 and you can't even buy one. the only way a dealer can get one is to replace an existing damaged one and then send in the damaged piece as a core.

i have an xlt 2012, got tired of the interior and decided i would swap it out figured if was going to do it id go as new as i could (2014) got this done and learned almost everything about the 2013/2014 networking i could. Full swap cost me about 2000$ Canadian and maybe 500$ in stuff i didnt need because no one had done this. So 11/12 truck have only two networks HS CAN and MS CAN 2013/2014 has 3, the third being I CAN, the I CAN is used for mostly the audio equipment, its a twisted pair of wires the is shielded, the instrument cluster acts as a gateway for the I CAN to communicate with the MS CAN network so messages can be sent back to the BCM. All this would need to be installed and working in order to go sync 3

First off thanks to the guys posting good info in this thread. It sounds like for me its not going to be feasable to do this but I want to double check with you guys before i completely rule it out.
I have a 2011 SCREW. Fully loaded with dual climate, heated and cooled seats and Sony system, Navigation and all that jazz. What would be needed (parts and work wise) to get this upgrade this? I think I would like the Sync 3 set up but if the MFT is a whole lot easier I would be ok with going that route.
Thanks in advance guys!

I believe for you and I we'll need
2013+ Dash Harness from a similarly equipped truck
2013+ BCM
2013+ Instrument Panel
2013+ Radio/HVAC Bezel
Sync3 Apim
Sync3 Screen
MFT/Sync2 CD module
Media Hub (for enabling carplay)
This is what I can think of off the top of my head....
