Default How to recalibrate the speedometer?

When installing larger tires how do you recalibrate the speedometer? I had a tuner for my 2013 Jeep that I traded in on my truck that would let me recalibrate my speedo and change my TPMS settings. Do they make something like that for the F-150's?

Most definitely. Same thing that was available for your jeep should be available for the F150. Most go with custom 5 Star or similar company that make custom tunes using the SCT handheld. Not sure which specific ones but Diablo, Bully Dog, Hypertech, Superchips, etc. check out those if you don't want to go with the SCT.

SCT and edge are the two most popular the the f series by far and just about all model tuners they make can adjust for tire size

Or just have your dealer do it...only takes a few minutes.

The benefit of a tuner far exceeds changing a tire size. Plus, you can change your tire sizes as often as you would like to throw some on the vehicle. Even if it helps fuel mileage or performance, and can be used for multiple different vehicles that you may own, or have in the future.

I am sure there is a charge for this. Do you know if there is? I have to recalibrate mine. I went from 55 to 70 tires and mph id off by 4-5 miles not a big deal cut if dealer does it for free I will take it.

There are a couple different options. You can take it to the dealer. I believe they will charge $50-75.

You could buy a speedometer calibrator. I bought the Hypertech Speedometer. It cost about $150 on sale. This allows you to adjust the tire size in 1/4 increments. You can make as many adjustments as you want.

Or you can go the route that some others recommended and get a full tuner. I believe this will cost in the ballpark of $250+. Obviously the advantage here is that you gain more options vice just adjusting the tire size.

I went from 275/55/20 to 275/60/20, not much difference (3.5%), and they told me that particular size is not in the system. Find it hard to believe. Some dealers will charge a minimum 1/2 to 1 hour for stuff like that, even though it takes about 5 minutes....

The dealership can only calibrate your speedometer for stock tire sizes that were offered on the f150. That would be why it's "not in the system"

Thanks everyone. I'll be looking into the 5 star tuner.
