I used black RTV for mine. Been over 2 years, no issues. In the meantime, I bought some of this for back up and to have around for other uses;

3M strip caulk

Nothing sticks to silicon. Silicon doesn't even stick to itself. If you need to change a bulb you will have a hard time getting it to re-seal. Silicon is very hard to clean off paint, making matters even worse.

You want to use something like strip calk, butyl windshield tape or something like that.

Or just use the updated gasket, dry.

I've had no problem removing silicone or rtv. Simply spray some CRC disc brake cleaner on a rag and rub onto the silicone or rtv and it starts to break down very quickly. A little elbow grease and it comes off.

Mine is starting to leak at the rubber strip that is riveted on the roof on the back passenger side. Rained hard today, got back there and it was dripping water. Thought it was the third break light all along but it's not.

Jeez, I think I'm going to just go ahead and silicone caulk every horizontal gap and seam I can find.

I was noticing water dripping near my sunroof area when it was raining last week. Brought the truck in today and they replaced my third brake light with a new one and resealed as that was the issue. Luckly my warranty which is up this year covered the cost
