Either there is or that bass controls the speakers and the sub. I'd have to check in my truck.

There's no separate control for the sub.
That's one of the reasons that subwoofer under performs. The other is that it just doesn't produce any noticeable deep bass.

It never was a mirror shaker to begin with. That's why most replace it with something else.

A few years ago the kicker upgraded the subwoofer. Made a huge difference to that system. Hard to find without spending a small fortune.

have anyone rapped the factory sun box (inside/outside) with sound deadening material?

did it have any effect?

Not tried, but did use the polyfill with good effect.
