Lots of different opinions. Never washed mine but in my 92 Toyota 22re I just sprayed de-greaser all over and drove downtown to car wash and left it running and just kinda misted the motor off without pulling the trigger.

Some people like to cover their alternator with a plastic bag and other major electronics.

I spray the entire engine bay with no touch armor all foam spray then lightly rinse with water hose. Comes out clean.

dow scrubbing bubbles and water works best. Doesn't dry out everything like connector seal, belts, hose etc,, like all the other cleaners on the market.

I've been power washing mine for years at the car wash. I only use the rinse (no soap) and have the engine off. Spray down or at moderate angles. I never had any problems doing this. If you do need to use soap (since you've been mudding) I'd only use a mild dish soap like Ivory. Mix the dish soap and a little water in a spray bottle. Wet the engine throughly with the power wash, spray on the soap, then rinse immediately. Don't let the soap sit on a hot engine.

Never, cause I don't want to start a thread on here titled 'I Washed my Engine and now it won't start'. Like I've seen a few times before.

On a cold engine I use orange blast. Mix it down 2 parts water 1 part orange blast. Spray it on, rinse it off with the hose. Then use an air nozzle on a compressor to blow off excess water. Been doing this for years on all my vehicles. Almost weekly on my Jeep during the summer from wheeling. Never had a problem. Never covered anything. It's water. You think your engine doesn't get wet when it rains?
