how do i use clay
I know this has been discussed before but I can't find it I have never used clay before because I never had a car that I really cared enough about to even wax but now I want my truck to be in top shape any advice would be great
Claying is pretty easy. If you think you might not be using enough spray, then use more as it won't hurt to over lubricate in this case. You can visually inspect the clay to see if you need to knead/turn the clay. The edges will likely show the imperfections you're picking up.
I've clayed many times, and just recently went away from clay with Nanoskin's Autoscrub sponge as a replacement for clay. Unlike clay, if you drop the Autoscrub you don't have to throw it out. Clay will pick up EVERYTHING it contacts, so you drop it once you have to replace it. The sponge is a use/rinse/repeat in the same frequency you'd knead the clay. I was very happy with the results after my first use this Saturday. Not to mention it's quicker with the sponge, as I was able to "clay" the truck in about 20 minutes. This usually takes about 1.5 hours with traditional clay. I got the sponge and their Glide concentrate on Amazon.

I have clayed many vehicles and my 2013 F150 was the first one that had the cleanest clearcoat I've ever clayed.
Always use more lubricant than you think. You will quickly find out that not enough spray will cause clay adherence which comes off but takes a little more work.

Go to: Ford f150 forums: then click MAINTENANCE- then DETAILING and CLEANING. At least that's how it on on the forum app. There's tons of good advice there to point you in the right direction because once you clay, you've got to have some way of blocking out any more contaminants from easily sticking again. This is where waxes, sealants and hybrid waxes and all in ones come into play and LSP, and IP's
you'll go crazy with all the products and acronyms! As far as responding directly to your post: I'd skip the clay and get a nano-skin if your a newbie. Much easier and a bit more forgiving if you were to drop it. Either one you get, 1. go back and forth and up and down. 2. Don't use too much pressure, and 3. Plenty of lube and 4. Don't go in figure 8's. Plus, it won't leave behind clay bits if you don't use enough lube; it will usually just get tougher to slide around and you'll feel when it needs more lubricant. Also, it can clay up to 30-50 vehicles, (depending on size) before needing a new one as opposed to maybe 3-5 times with a clay bar, and that's pushing it. Depending on how dirty your vehicles paint is. I wish you luck and sanity on your quest of detailing and making your vehicle look it's best! It becomes a never ending quest. dde03
