Default Holy crap, I must be getting old

My wife decided to do something nice and dropped into the local truck outfitters to check out brush guards while I was at work. The best price she could get was on a trail fx kit for $695 + tax + installation. Maybe it's just me, but isn't that like twice what it should be? Also, $240 + taxes and installation for a 1" level kit!!!!!

Maybe it's because it was a woman there or maybe they saw my truck and just saw dollar signs. Either way I am kinda disgusted.

Anyone got any tips for us ontario guys looking for gear for their trucks at a reasonable price.

First: any wife that is buying truck parts and haggling prices is a KEEPER

Second - that doesn't sound outrageous for the trail kit. Inflation, etc etc.

I paid $125 for a rough country leveling kit, and installed it myself. 1" doesn't sound nearly enough to level you out - RC sells a 2.5" and I'm dead level now.

They're also not that hard to install. If you have an air gun and the proper wrenches, it's really quite easy. If not, you could probably buy ALL the proper tools to do it and come out having spent the same $$.

bloackstock quoted me 1400 for a 2.5 inch level with add a leaf in the rear, installing my bigger tires and doing the alignment and speedo recalibrations. so that don't sound to bad.

How about the two of you shop online, Amazon or Ebay etc, decide on what you want and are comfortable installing yourself with a bit of help, save the install price and maybe tax, look for free shipping, and take some of what you saved, take her to dinner & get your favorite beverage!!

I'm more intrigued where you went where they saw a truck and saw dollar signs.

$240 plus install is steep compared to online, but its brick and mortar location.

Ah well, turns out wifey was going to pay the $600+ and surprise me when I got home. She only asked me if it was a good price after she left. Turns out the guy showed her a couple options, handed her the brochure and told her to bring it home to her husband, then just walked away. I did some googlefu and found out the price was actually pretty fair (it was the HD Trail FX bush bars) if only a couple extra bucks over what I would have paid over online. Which is reasonable as was mentioned for a brick an mortar. Unfortunately for them, my wife is more then capable to make these decisions (heck she also buys ammo and gun cleaning supplies for us to use without my input).

Like redneck says, I'll stop in at Blackstock, they usually are very fair, that and I've bought 5 trucks from them over the years so they usually give me a pretty good discount on parts.

Yeah, just 1.5" for me, I tow a lot and need to keep a little rake, as by the time I'm all hitched up and loaded she sits almost level without the kit, certainly don't want to be nose high when towing thanks.
