Help please w mirror install.
I've done a search, but all results were for 2008 and before. I have 2011 fx4. Mirror housing got broke. I have new one from tasca, but install instructions. On the older models they had to take off the whole door panel, on the 2011 the panel on inside of truck covering mirror housing is a separate piece. How do I get this off? Does the mirror just pop out too, cause I have to install the ptm skull cap on new mirror as well. Thanks for any and all help.
On my '09 I had to take the door panel off, but you said yours had a separate piece over the mirror bolts, I thought the same but on closer look it was attached to the door panel. The door panel has two screws at the bottom, one behind a cover in the armrest, and one behind the cover under the door handle, then lift up and out.
I have heard the mirror pops off allowing you to get inside to release the clips holding on the skull cap.
Hope this helps some. If your door panel has a corner piece that is separate, it most likely has push pins holding it on. Try looking on the Tasca website for door panel parts, maybe it shows an exploded view, I haven't seen where anyone has separate piece over the mirror.

It LOOKS like a separate piece because it has that line right there, but it is not a separate piece. It is all part of the door panel which you have to take off completely to get to the mirror. It's pretty easy to do, but can be tricky if you don't know what you are doing.
1. Pop out window switch panel, etc and unplug it.
2. Pop out panel BEHIND door release and remove either 8mm or 10mm bolt behind there
3. Remove small cover on top of bolt inside sleeve you grab to close the door. There is a 10mm bolt there as well.
4. Two smaller bolts on bottom of door panel at very bottom.
5. Lift door panel UP to remove and unhook from door.
6. Remove harness for power folding mirrors if equipped
7. Pop door release handle out from inside with clips to remove from door panel (this makes more sense when you get panel off)
Then you have access to the mirror bolts once all that is off. I have removed my 2011 door panels at least 5 times now for speaker installs and other work and I am 100% positive about it being one solid piece.

There is a thread on http://www.fordf150.net showing pictures of installing trailering mirrors on newer f150, claim he could do it in hour each side or so. Also search installing trailer mirrors on f150 for best instructions of doing mirrors. Above sounds right after looking at mirror instal. Go to search box above on page and type in "trailer mirror instal". Click on various threads to research your project. Although different mirror, still same task. There are pictures there on some of the threads.
