Help the new guy out
Hey guys,
So I am now in the market for a new F150. I have my options narrowed down to:
White Platinum Tri Coat
Power Sunroof
Tailgate Step
Electronic Locking Rear Axle
4x4
The only thing I have yet to decide on is the engine. I like the low end power of the ecoboost but I like the overall power of the 6.2 (don't get me wrong both engines are fast as hell). I am leaning towards the 6.2. The only thing I can't get over is the mpg. 12 in the city is fine but really???? 16 on the highway?? I know it is a truck and not a prius but is that really all the mpg that can be squeezed out of the 6.2? Opinions appreciated

My 6.2 gets 13-15 around town and 17-19.5 on highway. 3:55 gears. I've got 5300 miles on it now & LOVE it!!!
Also!!! The 6.2 does NOT have the electronic power steering that so many have had problems with. Good luck on your decision. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the replies guys. First off, I own my own business and my office is 10 minutes away from home, so I don't do alot of driving. Probably about 12,000 miles a year. So the fuel mileage isn't a complete turn off for me. I have also heard the EB doesn't get great mpg either. Either way, I don't tow alot but I haul alot, if that makes sense.
One thing I have heard is the 6.2 is not good until its tuned, if this is the case, I will go with a 5.0.

Eco owner here. I love my EcoBoost but it's not getting the economy that I hoped it might. Two reasons: lots of short trips in the city during the week, and high speeds on the hwy. 80+mph kills the economy of this engine. If you can keep the speed under 60mph the economy is amazing.
That being said, I would choose the EcoBoost again if I was buying a new truck today. It's so quiet, and the low-down toque is great. I've never felt any issues with the electric power steering, 12,000kms and counting in 4 months.

I'm on my 2nd EcoBoost powered F-150 as of a few weeks ago now and I'd never buy a truck with anything else in it.
I did drive a similarly equipped Platinum to mine except it was a 6.2 and of course had regular power steering. I guess in the last two years I've gotten so used to the EPAS that I really did not like driving a vehicle with regular power steering again.
The 6.2 was nice, but I easily got 22mpg on the highway in my FX2 w/ 3.55's and can easily attain the same mileage in my Platinum 2wd w/ 3.31's now as well. Never an issue with either truck to speak of.
Go drive em all and decide

Thanks for the replies guys. I will go test drive each truck when I have time in the next few weeks. I am the type of guy that drives fairly fast but not excessively. On I-95 going up to visit relatives I am running 80-90 mph with short bursts of 95 mph when possible. So I understand it will drink gas like a truck does. However, can anyone clarify the stock tuning problem with the 6.2?
