Help me choose Ford again
Hi all... I need help choosing ford again. I not exactly happy with my current 09 and would like you guys to convince me I should stay with Ford. I've had other makes in the past and this is my first Ford. Most of my issues are somewhat minor but enough to bug me.
My current truck is an 09 XLT scab 4x4 with the 4.6 V8.
First issue is the fricken traction control. Ive had it to 3 different dealers to try and get it straightend out but they tell me thats the way it is. Basically it is too agressive and you can not override it. In 6 inces of snow the tires will barely move in 2wd. To actually move from a dead stop it has to be in 4wd with t/c shut off and the gas pedal on the floor. It will then rev to 2300 rpm and slowly start to move out. On dry pavement if pulling out into traffic if the tire spins at all it completely shuts down for a few second. (accident waiting to happen).
Second is the drive train. Once in a while if you are cruising and you slow down say cause the guy in front needs to turn when you go to give it gas again there is a loud clunk from the rear end. 2 dealers say its fine and don't see any issues.
third the paint isn't very durable. It almost seems soft. One of my employees opened the very bottom drivers door into a stack of pallets and it didn't scratch or dent but peeled the paint like an orange peel.
forth the cloth on the seats stains very easily and at 40k the drivers seat is almost worn thru on the left side.
Like I said... minor. Are these usual things for Fords? I am looking at a '11 SCrew in platinum or Lariat.
p.s. has anyone seen the Golden Bronze in person?

09 was the first year of the new body, so there was definitely gonna be some bugs. 2 years later, I think they have a lot of those things fixed.
I actually saw a Gold Bronze today at Chili's in the Lariat trim w/ the Ecoboost motor. Looks very classy. If I was gonna get this color, it would have to be in Lariat trim with brown or red leather. That's just me though. Don't think I'd like it too much in XLT trim w/ cloth seats.

Since 03 my company truck has been a F 150. Last one was a 09 XL and I didn't think all that much of it and never had a thought about buying a new one for personal use. Test drove a FX4 Eco Screw and fell in love .. it's in my garage as I type
Sounds like your truck had problems that the dealerships didn't want to handle. There should never be a loud clunk in any drivetrain. The paint peel should be handled as defective. If paint peels with no deep scratch and there is primer showing then you have a defective paint job. As far as the traction contol on my 2010 I have had it in ice and snow mix with 4wd and tc never came on. Drove like a normal truck.

If you did not get another Ford, what brand would you consider? There is a reason that the F150 has been the best seller in all of the US for 34 straight years.
All brands have their idiosyncrasies and you are right, the problems you describe are minor and many of them the dealer should have already taken care of for you.
As to the sides of the seats -- on any vehicle, try to exit up and out and not slide all the way to the ground on the edge of the seat --- that will kill the material on any seat within a year or less..............

I've got to ask. What is a 4.8?
Any truck that used in a work capacity will wear the seats out if used a lot. The best thing for that is a set of utility type vinyl seat covers. The pallet peeling the paint can happen to the most expensive paint jobs. I can turn the traction control off on my truck.
If you're using your truck for a utility vehicle I don't think I would want a Platinum or Lariat.
If these are the only thing you are discouraged about, I wouldn't hesitate buying another Ford truck.

First off what is a 4.8L?
2nd: Our quality here at ford has sky rocketed in the past 2 years. We reject any part that doesn't pass inspection. Also what engine are you going to go with? ecoboost, 5.0L, 6.2L? I hope you have seen the ecoboost test if so need i say more.
3rd: get dark leather or a dark cloth and stains wont show.
