I understand where your coming from. I had the same issue in my 06. Now I have the adjustable headrests in my 13. But after many years and severe arthritis in my neck I keep the headrest adjusted so there will be no chance of whiplash in an accident. As I age reducing the risk of damage is the most important thing.

 

I seldom can wear a hat in a vehicle. Baseball caps hang on the gear shifter, wide brim hats go in the left corner of the dash. Headrest? I worry about the roof.
