This is like, the third 'HID' thread just today.
I'm a fairly new user, does **** like this just come in waves? Seems like one person sees a post on a subject, and then multiple people suddenly feel the urge to post the exact same thing within a couple days.

i'd say just do better bulbs, but don't get piaa's, get sylvania silverstar ultras. much better lighting over stock bulbs and it'll save you from all the hassle of HID's, and probably save you some $ too.

I was looking at those bulb today and was contemplating if I should go cheap and buy them or actually get decent HID. But I hear those bulbs have a short life span. Is there a reason why not Piaas?

they're advertised to have a shorter life than stock which is true, because they're a more powerful bulb. life span mostly depends on how much night driving you do with them on. i've heard of people doing average night driving with them and them lasting 2+ years. HIDs don't necessarily have a long life span either.

and piaa's are probably good, i've never had them i just recommend silverstars because i have them and love them

Last year shortly after I bought my truck, the first thing I did was change the bulbs to the 'Philips X-Treme 9008/H13'. They did make a satisfactory improvement (but nothing like HID's would do) and I haven't had any issues with them for over a year now. I'm very satisfied with them!

I couldn't keep a Silverstar in my truck more than 6 months, they eventually stopped covering them under their warranty.

I too went the Philips X-Treme route. I guess they are a bit better that stock....? I really didn't think stock was that bad. I hear people all the time say how the stock set up sux but that was not my opinion - they were ok.
I would love to have some reliable HID bulbs but don't want to just stick them in the housings that are not made for them/non-projector and everyone saying I am blinding other drivers, etc...

I don't see why Ford doesn't make a true projector housing and offer an HID system as an option from the factory?

If Ford ever does come out with an HID option before they change the headlight design, then I'll convert over.
