Not easy, but as you say, tedious is a good descriptor.
The results are 100% worthwhile though, and much of the cloudiness seems to be inside the lens - in my case a result of some off-gassing from the chrome trim near the signal light bulb. Once you have separated the lens, everything is pretty easy from there.
