Default headlight bulbs

How do you get to the headlight bulbs? It looks like both the air cleaner assembly and battery have to be removed.

Should be something in the owners manual about it.

You have to remove the whole headlight assembly to access the bulbs. If I remember correctly there are three retaining screws that have to be removed.

Yup melo said it. Headlights need to come out. The manual will explain it all.

Yep - in the OM - just did the same thing last weekend. Very easy - you will also have to remove the plastic push fastener that holds the rubber cover up next to the headlight. Be sure and have a thick towel laying on the front bumper so when the headlight assembly comes out you have a place to lay it w/o scratching your bumper or the headlight assembly. The lighting harnesses will still be attached so you won't be able to set the headlight assembly down. Also, when removing the bulb connectors, there is a plastic snap piece that you have to lift for the connector to slide out...hard to explain but it does come out - once you have the hang of it. The new Silverstars look great - only a bit brighter - but a much whiter light....I also changed out the fog's - using 9145's (Silverstars) instead of the 9140 stock bulbs. Silverstars aren't yet avail in the 9140 bulb and they are identical except the 9140 is rated at 40w and the 9145 is rated at 45w....I don't believe a 5w increase will harm the fog light assembly at all. Now the headlights and fog lights match and are brighter white as well.

Good luck

Default Installed H13ST silverstar bulbs

I got the H13ST bulbs and installed them. They look great, compared to the rest of the home fleet, the headlamps are very noticably whiter and brighter.

I'm very happy to have done it..

Installation help: It's in the manual, somewhere. you do 3 bolts and pull the outside pins loopse and the headlamp assembly pulls out (to the limits the harness allow. I used a small towel to protect the lamp surfaces while swapping the bulbs. The first one was tight so I used a channel lock to get it to turn and release. the second one was not as hard.

Big tip:: Wipe each bulb and use a towel to hold the bulb when installing to keep finger grease off the bulb glass. This is a big reason that halogen bulbs die young. That grease causes temperature differential resulting in breakage..
