Hard shift into second gear
I have a 2014 F-150 XLT 5.0. I have noticed, particularly when the truck is cold, the shift from first to second is pretty hard intermittently. Only happens every so often. Has anyone else seen this in their trucks?
I searched, but "second" is too common a word and was excluded from the search results
. I've seen some people say they've seen this in other threads, but why is it happening?
EDIT: I took it to the dealer on Saturday, but they were unable to replicate the problem, but told me not to worry too much about it. I'd just like an explanation as to why it's happening, if it's normal.

Mine does the same thing usually notice it pulling out of my complex first drive of the day. Doesn't happen much after that.
I've read transmission needs to be re flashed which is basically unplugging battery for a few hours.
I did this yesterday while installing my kicker, so I'll be driving for the next few days like I stole the truck to see if it gets rid of that hard shift into 2nd

Mine does the same thing into third.
Back when i was in school for heavy duty they told us that smooth shifting happens by slipping the clutches into each gear. The more it slips the clutches the smoother it shifts (to an extent).
Hard shifting isnt hard on the transmission, they are built very strong, it takes a tremendous amount of force to damage the gears in the transmission. The hard shifting is annoying tho but i dont really think there is anything to worry about as long as its not slamming into every gear super hard.
Also when was the last time you changed your transmission oil and filter? i noticed in mine that once the fluid started to get old and dirty, the truck didnt shift as nicley.
Hope that helped.
Good luck.
