I learned this lesson from my brother. Pressing the brake pedal down, shifting the vehicle into neutral, applying parking brakes, letting off the brakes, then shifting into park is a good way to prolong the life of the drivetrain. This not just keeps the jolt from happening, but also puts the weight of the car on the brakes and not on a parking pawl (which on cars of any size has the possibility of shearing off and causing the vehicle to roll down the hill.) Sometimes if the hill is steep enough, it might require someone pushing the car to get it out of park if one doesn't have the parking brake applied first.

To boot, brake pads are slightly easier to replace than parts in a transmission bell housing as well.

A cam phaser is the bolt/adjuster (in laymens terms) that mounts in the end of the cam where the sprocket is. It's what controls the variable timing.

A valve body is a part in the transmission that controls where all the fluid goes. IE what solenoid gets fluid and how much it fluid it gets. It can control shifts and gear changes depending what make vehicle it is.

cool thanks guys I do appreciate it! Just got it bake and it turned out they had to overhaul the main control valve assembly and also replace the cam phaser. I did however have an opportunity to speak to the actual mechanic, which was nice because the service people may not fully convey your individual situation to the mechanic, but it was nice to speak with him one on one. So he said "if" I need to bring it back have service paige him to also come up front to speak with me! So theres nothing lost in translation so to speak haha!

when my '11 drove off the lot it was a little clunky from 2<1 but that seems to be slowly going away now after 800 miles. Although I have had 2 occasions where I was coasting down and it kinda banged hard shifting from 5<4. I didn't like the feel of it. It it keeps up I'll see if they can flash or do something.
