When I leave the vehicle... It goes with me. (The holster remains there though...)
If I am going into a place that does not allow me to carry - I place it in a small safe/lockbox cabled to the driver seat.
Comments weren't directed at you only at my comments, I like your location and was just trying to make a point but should have worded it better.

For Storage I'd recommend a small safe (as previously stated) that can be bolted or cabled to something in the truck.

For carry, I got a velcro mounted holster (blackhawk) then just bought some plastic/dashboard grade velcro and placed the soft-loop portion against the side of the console to mount the holster

**Knowing it depends on your state/local laws

I always find it funny how people say stuff like that and when jerome yanks you out the car and butt rapes your wife you are the first to ask "Why?". Protecting yourself and your family is not paranoia.... owning a gun is not the problem... today's society is. break the plane of my truck and you will be able to **** out your forehead

In my experience, there is no point in trying to explain to non-gun owners the need for having a weapon with you at all times. It depends on where you live too. I don't expect someone who lives where there is no violence to understand why I carry a gun 90% of the time. I live outside of Detroit and have to travel down into the bowels of the lovely city quite often.

PS - I am aware that I am inserting myself into this conversation even though it does not involve me. (sorry!)

I agree, no one ever needs a gun until they NEED a gun and then its too late to get the keys open the box insert the mag, and then start shooting. Just saying, its our right to protect ones self, thats why i carry my weapon with me EVERYWHERE I go. Perhaps not military but if I drive through a state or a city that is gun shy I just leave it in the glove box.

Only hood-rats use "clips". Responsible firearm owners use "magazines".
